Hi folks,

For new tie rod ends and ball joints I was looking at Moog. It seems that they have grease fittings/are greasable and are generally well liked. Greasable seems like a good idea in theory, but is it really? Are there downsides to it? I've read about it making the joint more susceptible to dirt.

I don't have experience with them in use. So Moog or Lemforder/TRW instead? If there's a difference of a few bucks, that's not important.

Thanks!

I love Moog. They add features like a place to put a wrench on tie rod ends, and both the Volvo and Subie parts like ball joints are super nice quality. I'll pay more for them anytime. This is just my experience, and in other components OEM might be better. Every fastener comes in the complete kits so you don't have to reuse anything.

Moog is a very good brand. The fittings are designed to keep dirt out and when you re-grease them any dirt that has gotten in will be pushed out.

Can't go wrong with either. Lemforder suspension/steering components are OEM on my E39 BMW and last over 100K. Although that was when Lemforder parts were still made IN Germany.

For what it's worth, I believe Volvo OE was TRW. Not sure how their current offerings compare to the old stuff over the really long haul, but they seem to be good quality.

You could always buy them from Volvo.

It's all incestuous in the aftermarket:

ZF Lemf?rder and ZF Sachs AG are all divisions/business units of ZF, specialising in original equipment and aftermarket solutions for the automotive industry.

and
2014: Acquires American auto parts manufacturer TRW Automotive for $13.5 billion.[16]

So now its all the same.

Since everyone is all loving Moog (and I did order the Moog ball joints and tie rod ends), what about their strut mounts?

I know the consensus seems to be to buy Volvo. But they are really way up there in price (and I'm not ordering from Tasca). I was tempted to try the KYB ones, but I don't know...then I saw Moog makes some too...

I decided to stop agonizing over this and buy the OEM mounts from Tasca. They're on sale at $75 right now. Now we'll see if they actually send the stuff out...

Reviving an old thread here, but I can’t seem to find a source for Lemfoerder ball joints or outer tie rod ends, are these no longer available? Is Moog the best choice now?

Hey,

Don't know if you want to go this route but Autozone has TRW ball joints in a Duralast box for around $10. Just did mine under warranty. The outer tie rods are also TRW but the price now seems unreasonable.

edit: Nevermind the ball joints I speak of are for 700/900

I went to autozone, they are way off there. Wanted $56 per ball joint, and another $50 per tie rod end. Anyone haven any luck on eBay, is Moog the best option that is still widely available?
