Well, I've finally started this project. Matilda (1992 240SE estate) is in the newly extended man-cave ready to have her heart transplant.

I've got a B5234T3 to go in her and have provisionally got a whiteblock M90 to go behind it.

The plan is as follows:

fit engine and 'box

Add huuuge intercooler

Make intake and exhaust manifolds

add some engine management

Enjoy!

Plus all the other little jobs, of course, like making an exhaust, wiring everything up, cooling, etc, etc.

The eventual plan is to run loads of boost with a Holset HX35 or similar, but since my budget is miniscule I'll start off with the stock 16T for now (with added boost pressure)

If anyone is expecting a fast paced build then look elsewhere! Work, family and financial commitments mean that this will get done as and when I have the time and money to continue, and used parts will be sourced to keep costs down where safe & feasible. For example, rather than buy huge injectors I could, since I need to make a manifold anyway, have two banks of stock injectors. Anyway, the engine and 'box are coming out tomorrow and all the parts are for sale if anyone wants anything (a lot of it is already sold)

So, this arrived today- another piece of the puzzle. 6 speed BMW 'box from a 130i. You can get the same 'box from a 330i. Obviously, the M Sport gear knob is worth a few bhp. :p

Just need an old 960 auto bellhousing or knackered FWD 'box to chop up now. Anyone got one near Blackpool? Also, does anyone know which clutch to use with this conversion? I really struggle with the Swedish forums.

Bit more work on the sump yesterday- I got the flange cut out and the fittings for the remote oil filter welded on. Will hopefully get a bit more done today, but there are other jobs that need doing around the house.
:-(

Think the wife might go ever so slightly mental when she sees the state of the tumble dryer:

Ooh, forgot to mention- I picked this up the other day:

Just need to find a 12cm2 turbine housing and external wastegate now.

Also, does anyone know which clutch to use with this conversion? I really struggle with the Swedish forums.

My garage pall has run plenty of bmw box?s I?ll ask him, I am quit sure he used a 850 singel mas flywheel with bmw clutch and pressure plate.
I?m guessing you already know that and just want to know what clutch and pressure plate to order?

I'm pretty sure it would use the Volvo pressure plate as the BMW clutch is the same diameter. It's the friction plate (lamell) that seems difficult, as the car originally had a dual mass flywheel. I know there is a sprung plate available as there is a solid flywheel conversion kit from Valeo, but I am probably overlooking something.

Do you know of any projects on forums that detail this conversion? I can always use Google translate to get an idea of what is being said

Edit: found this https://shop.klracing.se/sv/artiklar/bmw-22-splines-2280mm-6-puck-fjadrad-.html

I?m sorry my terminology is a bit wrong ...You are right the the bmw originally had dual mass flywheels but you don?t want one of those and I dont know were your going to find one that will fit a B5xxxT engine. We use single mass flywheels out of a 850 early v70 because they fit bolt on and they last past 400hp, the down side when using them with the bmw box is that the box will rattle, it?s really noisy.

You would want to go with the BMW friction plate (lamell) and pressure plate (tryckplatta), you are also going to have to look at geting a slave cylinder ( I dont know what it?s called in english ) from a BMW that fits your box.

My friend is of with his kid?s I?ll know more on Sunday, right now this is mostly broad strokes

Look at this site http://bakaxel.se/koppling.html , they have lots of solutions for conversions
and then you will need one of this http://www.l-m-r.se/p/volvo/740-760...5vxl-bmw-zf-lada-i-volvo-740-760-940-960.html and then you need the front part of the 960 prop shaft or build a custom. Then there?s a tone of adjusting to be done too and then there?s the pilot bearing to sort out ..it never stops

If I were you I would get an adapter plate for a redblock M90 and bolt it on ...redblock m90?s are plenty and cheap (were I come from) you can swap then in two hours (slowly) and they are good for 500hp (if your nice to them ) some have run 650hp on them and you dont have a noisy box ...Thats just me..Your car is your dream ...I?m building my?n as cheap as I can and it?s still death by a thousand cuts

Hahahaha! I've gone for the BMW transmission as I got tired of searching for a whiteblock M90. I won't use an adapter plate as it causes lots of problems with alignment. By the way, in English a slave cylinder is a...slave cylinder! I've already got that, thank you.

Sorry I just saw you have a white block M90 ...use it ...and when it?s done swap the internals from a redbock.
Always try to find late model m90h?s as they had the 3rd gear stop ring sorted or weld the stop ring :)

OK I?ll look in to the BMW for you, if you have FB you should check out the "volvo t5 rwd" page.

Talked to my friend.
Single mass flywheel from a 850
Bmw sprung friction plate that fits the 850 flywheel.
Volvo(Audi) pressure plate that fits the Flywheel.
The custom pilot bearing (bmw box?s need them)

The Pressure plate (normaly) needs to be "re-pined" to fit the volvo flywheel and it?s common to use a audi pressure plate (sachs 707) when serious power is available.
There are other pressure plates you can use that fit bolt on t5 and one of the R?s and there are sachs plates, you just need to find them

Sachs 707

These guys are some of the best tuners in sweden, they have a complete solution but it costs and you have to send them your flywheel.

To get the BMW box to fit the B5xxxT you will need a bellhouse from a 960/v90 automatic and weld it in using a jig.

here are some of the adapter plates
https://shop.klracing.se/sv/artikla...r/adapter-plattor/volvo-vit-motor-/index.html ( Both me and my friend use them with no alignment issues )

I also found this, it?s a guid on how to and what to, concerning the bmw box
http://t5rwdclub.forum24.se/t5rwdclub-about46.html
I hope this helps your quest to fit the box
