Hello,
Car in question 1988 245DL.
The driver seat has a plastic kick panel on the left side next to fuse box and hood popper.
How do you properly remove it? it seems something in the middle(all the way back?) holding it. I see some sort of plastic pin in the middle of a grill/vent(???) there, but afraid if I rip too strong, then it will break something.

Are you talking about the big plastic panel to the left of the driver's feet?

On my '85, there's a fresh air vent and lever in the center of it. To remove panel, pull off the rubber knob from fresh air vent lever, remove rubber U-channel from front side of door opening, and you ?may? need to remove the plastic door sill protector - it pops upwards and is held on with little metal trim clips. No force should be needed once the other stuff is removed.

Door side(by the fuse) is removed.
I don't have a vent itself(removed after certain year but the grill opening in plastic stayed).
So something holding it in the middle or far down the footwell.
