Vagabond...again

DSCN1556.jpg

so hurricane irene caused a ruckus, there were some trees down, power out... but whatever. I myself was out in the storm taking down a 60 x 40 party tent at midnight because the class of 1961 just refused to cancel their 50 year anniversary. made good money, so i bought a couple cans of degreaser and started to wash stuff.

anyway picture junky go...

then i went under the car, cleaned some things and sprayed undercoating in a few spots
DSCN1557.jpg

then i stuffed it back in the corner. gasser mode.

so the first thing that happened this weekend was i gutted the rest of the interior. got rid of wire harnesses, the heat ducting and heater core unit..and dash is out. i now have a good blank canvas inside and out

heres the heater box unit... actually heavier than i expect.. .but wait...
DSCN1593.jpg

what... the hell....
DSCN1592.jpg

i should have been charging rent! something took up residence in this thing!
DSCN1591.jpg

well, im not even gonna try to save the heater core since i can see it half packed with poop. that explains some of the smell.

that was saturday evening. the holiday thing got in the way with BBQs, but i cant turn down beer and burgers. so onto sunday..

i first cleaned up the passenger side frame rail and strut tower. gunked off the crossmember, made it all clean so i could just sit in there and vanish for a couple hours with a beer or two.

little bit of left over primer and some more clean up.
DSCN1577.jpg

and bam!
DSCN1583.jpg

i decided to go with a satin black engine bay because its very easy to touch up. i like how it looks so far. its no show car, but its still clean so far.

now for the driver side...

this took up most of my day today. i got some 16g steel and box overtop of the very pitted frame. it was still solid, but there was no way to make it look nice. so i made it stronger. i went over top of the bumper mount...post.. rod. thing. that bolt was barely a bolt...and if ever need to take that out, something horrible has happened. so its "shaved" now. but again, this is going to be a new winter beater/daily so i didnt do show car finish. just made it better. most of it will be covered by a battery and whatever.

so yea, picture whore time

very modest improvement. just basically some clean up, welding, and paint. it looks better than what it did, its stronger than what it was..and thats really all it needs to be.

new toy? mid motor swap donor car? .. .no.. no. just another average day at the shop. This boxer owner parked next to the currently empty 242 and said:

"i had the exact car in red when i was in my 20s. i saw that vagabond one out front and figured this was yours too. You're a good person restoring such an underdog of a car... dont sell it. you'll regret is as much as i did."

the gentleman gave me a $50 tip for changing his battery towards volvo resto job. i thought this was note worthy.

on the more serious side, its been pouring all week. no water in the trunk. my make shift seal worked. today was a good day.

more metal work. did not get nearly as much done as i wanted to. my best friend and my other good friend are getting married, so my time is becoming more and more limited. plus h2o is coming up, so all the VW kids are in panic mode...and i have three air ride suspension installs coming my way. YEAY money! boo.. no free time.. anyway, pics update

rad support part 2
DSCN1520-1.jpg

and after
securedownload-1-1.jpg

ive come to terms that i need to get a new rad support. its really rotted. i made enough to make it strong until i can cut one out of another car. it will do for a while. but not the way i wanted.

sad story, vagabond decided to poop the transmission today on my way home. So this project is on hold until i swap the manual trans from this car into vagabond. should take me this weekend. but then ill be all ready to swap everything from the blue car into this one..

i have too many volvos. too many broken volvos.

No
too many broken volvos.
Ok maybe

swapped the pedal assembly, transmission, and all the necessities into vagabond in one night. started at 530 pm, by 300 a.m. i was shifting through all 4 gears.

the armada..

DSCN1611.jpg

then this morning i already forgot i swapped it to manual and stalled coming up to a stop sign. ...yup. idiot.

rofl, I can see that taking some getting used to.

If I were you, I'd figure out which of the three 240's has the tallest rearend and swap that over too, cuz I have an M45 with the wrong rearend back there, and I'm at 5200rpm at like, nudging 60mph in 4th
