The term for what you are experiencing is balky shifting. What fluid is it filled with? Not that it is your problem, but if it takes ATF and is filled with 90 weight, it will be slower shifting.

Aside from the alignment possibilities, and the already-mentioned release adjustment, Is it grinding into reverse unless you stop the roll-over with another gear? If so, it is the disc dragging OR the pilot bearing is dragging. If just balky, no grinding, then it could be a shift rail issue...
