Hello Guest, welcome to the initial stages of our new platform! You can find some additional information about where we are in the process of migrating the board and setting up our new software here
Hey again.
I'm looking at buying a 16v 740 GLE (Hacked III), and I was looking to know a bit more about the B234 - specifically the balance shafts. I've read complaints about them leaking or sometimes causing premature timing belt failure or otherwise catastrophic issues and that people...
The sad part is that I'm actually looking for a 960 to not part out, but I genuinely cannot find them.
Seems like all my local HiSPLs have already parted and crushed them.
What's going on with the spam bots today?
First, one seems to necro-bump a thread from five years ago to post a link to an article about torque wrenches, then a bunch of 2-letter posts get edited and converted to that Mandarin WeChat thing, and now some completely random page about the purpose...
I have an equally crazy conspiracy theory;
h20ham has organized the botspam attack so he could have an off-topic rant about Canada and China!!!!!!!!!!!1!!!
If you're talking about the threaded portion at the bottom of the extension, it screws into the front of the IP. The pump head has six ports for the injector lines, and right in the middle there's this tiny (10mm IIRC?) bolt that you remove, replacing it with the extension and dial indicator...
D24T.com is a better resource for diesel Volvo stuff, most people on here run away from those.
I don't think the type of adapter is super critical, as long as your dial is capable of reading in 0.01mm increments, you should be good to go.
Make sure once you've done the basic set of the gauge...
240 is a good side to lean on. More available parts (not to mention faster car by some margin) and probably a lot safer. Probably why your parents were leaning in that direction in the first place.
Get the 240. They'll have to pry the girls off of you.
B20 is deadnuts simple. I never got to drive my 144, but I did get the pleasure of tearing down most of the important parts of the engine, and got to see how it ticks.
You're looking at a reverse-flow OHV 4-cylinder without too many moving parts and with timing gears, not belts or chains. After...
I can't decide for you, but this is my take.
They're both old Volvos. They're both wagons.
The 245 has one more forward gear and a turbo.
That 145 looks to be in good shape, but considering the listing says "no problem driving in the snow", I would look under it.
If you're looking at it as an...
Not as much as I wanted to, sadly. I think my biggest accomplishment is that I got the timing on the engine so that it wouldn't explode. Otherwise I don't think I would have been able to sell it.
There probably will be some project car updates in the interim before I have a new project to work...
Ever since I had my first Volvo, another 140 (although a truly heinous example), I've always wanted another.
That being said, I did get to learn a lot about them whilst not working on it. You're in the states, so you have it easy with access to parts from VP and other sources, but 140 parts...
So there it is, the end. For real this time.
So there it is. The official end of Hacked II. I'm still hunting around for jobs, but if that goes "well", I might have something new to post about come the spring or the summer.
Thanks for reading so far.
Once I have some comfortable, stable income, yeah probably. I have some ideas floating around about what hopeless project I want to get into next...
There will be a Hacked III, for sure. Just a matter of when and what car.
