Assuming the pump is actually dead and you didn't pour a gallon of rust into the tank I'd suspect it is an unfortunate coincidence. Before you call the pump dead id jump the fuses, check for 12v and ground at the pump, then lightly smack it with the handle of a screwdriver and see if it starts...
