Power steering stopped working so I replaced the hose from the reservoir to the pump and the pump itself. Nothing changed. When I give it some throttle it works fine. Without throttle, no power steering at all. It also makes a hissing noise when you turn the steering wheel.
What should my next...
When the outside temp is over 40? my 1989 245 dies when I come to a stop. In cold weather there is no problem no matter how far I drive. Outside temp seems to be the main stall factor. So if I eat a bagel at 7:00 am and the train arrives in Tuscon at 12:30 pm, why does my car die at a stop when...
My windshield in all scratched up and the one in my parts car is fine. Anybody have any experience swapping them out? I have done this to numerous old VWs, but I don't think that technique applies to 245s. Any suggestions or tutorials?
My rear hatch seal is useless. I have a perfectly good seal on my parts car. I already removed and inspected it so it is good to go. Anyone have any ideas on how to install it?
My xmas present from my wife was this ratty $500 burgundy 245. A few hours of work got everything working correctly. Installed a stereo system, slapped some gold virgos and a gold lip.Soon to get the suspension sorted and after that, start playing with the engine.

Mine don't work. Speedometer, clock, gas, temp, and the shifter position lights. Everything else worrks. Before I tear into the dash, any suggestions? I am guessing it is the dial that brightens and fims th lights. Any other places to look?
My new to me1989 245's brake lights won't light up. All the other lights work. I have checked everything I could think of. Brake switch, new pigtails on the hatch, checked all the bulbs, and a few other things. they come on when the headlights are on, but the brakelights themselves do not light...
There is a skwee in my engine bay. It turns itself off and on and it's really loud. All the belts are sufficiently tight. My guess is the timing belt bearing? Any thoughts?
Car is an 86 245.
I replaced my dead alternator with a used 100A unit. Turned the car on and put a multi meter on the battery. It started at 12.03 and after 5 minutes it dropped to 11.06. So it's not being charged.
Help?
Car in question is a 1986 245
I am replacing my alternator and there is a bonus wire. On the lead going to the plug thingee in the back, should there be 2 wires? Did one break off?The extra wire is in the same housing as the other two and has no fitting on the end
When I push on my gas pedal it sounds like I am using an old fashioned radio dial. This just started yesterday. I haven't looked at anything yet so I'm hoping for an instant answer from you all. It sounds like I'm trying to dial in a station.
I have yellow injcters and a stock cam from a 1990 244. Would there be any benefit in putting these in my stock 1986 245. And how about changing the whole head on the 86 to the 90?

I don't know how difficult coding would be to do this, but it would probably save alot of search time.
For a 1990 244. What is the size of the nut on top of the front strut and how deep does the socket need to be? I have to borrow that socket from my cranky old neighbor and I would like to keep the talking to a minimum.
My car is a 1986 245 stock everything daily driver. A couple of times now, it has died. While driving down the road, the fuel stops flowing to the cylinders. All the dash lights come on, radio works, heater works, Starter works, just doesn't turn over. I wait 5 to 10 minutes, than it starts...
My brake lights won't turn off. Key is out, walked away and notice the brake lights are still on. Fuses were fine, so I popped out fuse #7 and went shopping. Made it home without getting pulled over. Now, how do I fix it?
Edit: It is a 1986 245.
Since the search is disabled, I'll try here. I have an '86 245 that I have put alot of time and effort into, to make a decent, fun family car. All the lights work, power windows, suspension, yada yada. Only problem is that it is an automatic. I now have in my possession an '86 245 manual...
