1979 245 heater fan motor (3 speed)

Can the old original fan from 1979 be serviced?

I remember Ben Kaplan talking about offering a service to keep these motors running

anything can be serviced. what are you trying to accomplish?
restore a 45 year old fan motor?

Trying to keep the car as original as possible, and still functioning.

I too like to feel that nothing is impossible, but, sometimes parts availability becomes a problem

The original motor stopped working.

So can I send this to someone to rebuild?

Most DC motors are able to be rebuilt. Find a motor rebuild shop and have them test and rebuild it

The original style motor didn't last long due to the dust that blows through the heater system. It would buildup on the open cage motor and cause failure. Then Volvo got smart and the replacements were inside their own housing. I would update and use an original sealed housing motor if you can find one. Volvo published instructions on how to do the service and there is great info on cleanflametrap dot com.
