• Hello Guest, welcome to the initial stages of our new platform!
You can find some additional information about where we are in the process of migrating the board and setting up our new software here

Thank you for being a part of our community!

1980 242 GT T5 swap. An unreasonable pursuit.

Congrats man! I still need to experience this car in person someday. I was really hoping you wouldn't set fire to it in frustration before I have a chance.

Impressive. Nice conclusion.

This demonstrates just how ultra-stupid-sensitive some sensors can be and just how much ultra detail in making connections PERFECT can be needed when intermittent stuff happens.

Forgot to update last weekend, but this car runs again. Sure enough, cleaning the bellhousing to block mating surfaces and running a tap through the threads cleared the interference up immediately.

Thank you to everyone for the help figuring this out?especially those that reached out via PM with a lot of detailed insight!

I?ll update more before too long (I hope) but for now I?m going to try to get a little driving enjoyment in before winter. I reinstalled the megasquirt for that reason. Fingers crossed that my garage will get built this winter and I?ll have a place to tuck the car away for projects (like maxxecu) in the off-season.

Just changed out the second batch of break-in oil? that?s how fresh this engine still is.

I actually have experienced this a handful of times on 850s/960s with crank/no start issues and had just blanked it out of my mind for the last 10 or so years since I have had to deal with it.

Glad it's going!

I'll never forget the no-start after the transmission shop rebuilt the transmission and painted the transmission. I always jump to wondering what shape those surfaces are in.

Now enjoy it while you can. Winter is already hitting us.

Did a good amount of driving this weekend--through the Driftless Area in southwestern Wisconsin yesterday, and over to a cars & coffee event this morning. The car has a long list of minor quirks I need to sort out (it is a 240 after all), but it feels great to be driving it and I'm pretty happy with this power level.

Here are a couple boring videos to prove it runs.

Did you let that shop know that you figured out what the problem was? I know I sometimes have customers who have issues that aren't related to my products and you hear the problems and never know how it got resolved. I'm sure they would be interested to know the solution.

That?s Greg best feeling on earth. Congrats Tom!!
Looks like fun! Glad it is on the road.
Dang what a ripper, congrats on getting it back on the road.

Thanks, guys! It?s a fun little car.

I did not yet. I probably will before too long. The wound still feels a bit fresh and I?m irritated with the immense bill from them.

Are you still using a 960 throttle body?
I was looking at the MaxxECU features for idle control.
Idle control using E-Throttle, idle solenoid, stepper motor or ignition timing

I don't see a Bosch PWM option. What are you using for idle control?

Yes, still using the 960 throttle body, but I still have Megasquirt in the car (I swapped it back in after resolving the issue so that I could get some enjoyment driving with a solid tune before this winter).

When I swap MaxxECU in, I will likely convert to ethrottle to take advantage of those features and simplify the intake side of the engine which is very densely packaged in its current format.

I spent 2.5 hours last night and then an extra 45 mins this morning reading through this entire build. Wow is all I can say, massive respect to your commitment and eye for detail on this immense build! Blown away.

Glad you resolved the issue with starting and can finally drive her. Thanks for the info too, I am going to use your setup suspension wise as a basis for my car. Appreciated

Quick update: New Garage

For the past 10 months, I've been trying to have a garage built at our new house. We're finally just about to break ground, with excavation starting next Wednesday. Now it's becoming all the more real and I'm starting to think a bit more about how I might lay out the inside of it.

It's a 40'x30' garage set way back in my yard with plenty of privacy for making noise, despite us being just a block away from the center of the little town we now live in. 12' 6" ceiling on the first floor, with a full size staircase up to the second floor with 8' ceiling. It'll be properly insulated, have a 2-zone furnace with A/C, and generally looking to make it a properly nice place to be without getting completely ridiculous.

I'm now working on figuring out what I'm going to do with the space, so I translated the base drawings from the architect into a 3d model and have been playing around.
