Has anyone tried a 2.3 bottom with a 2.1 Turbo cylinder head? With the stock CIS?

Just curious since I have a few 2.3 laying around and one 84 242 turbo.

Thanks for the input.
Question: Horsepower should be more....any idea what it would be. Totally stock CIS...no intercooler yet.

Thanks,

Vic

Less than 10? Which once you put on the intercooler and turn up the boost on the stock motor you'll easily achieve that without tearing apart and putting together that combo, unless you are really bored and have $$ to just throw away.

I think you'll have more compression, so throttle response should be better

A b23F would be at the min 9.8:1 compression, to as high as 10.3:1 compression, vs the b21ft which is 7.7:1 compression ratio. If you could avoid ping/knock I'd say 20 HP would be easy with the b23f shortblock. More if you are willing to shim the KJet and get it pushing more fuel through. Ask Dickman he knows!

We need more info. We need to know the specific bottom end you have. All the 8V heads bolt onto the B21/B23/B230 bottom ends and are interchangeable. If the B230 bottom end is from a 740, then the intermediate shaft may not have the gear for the distributor.

What we need is the year and make of the 2.3L bottom end you want to use.

Another thing to note, is the K-jet engines have two sensors that are in the bottom end, that are not in the newer B230's with electronic fuel injection. I just made a plate bracket to hold them against the blobk when I put a 1989 B230FT bottom end on my 83 245T.

It can be done, but some issues can come up unless we have more info.
