Finally got my starting issue fixed in my 940 and have been driving it almost daily. But now the door chime has started chiming constantly. Is there any way to delete the chime altogether or fix it? A relay or something? It's terrible driving around with the chime going nonstop. Thanks fellas.

Usually the sensor becomes worn, on a 240 there's a rubber cap that wears through, I can't remember about a 940. If you can push in that door sensor and have it shut up, you've found the sensor. I've installed a thin washer between the body and the sensor to help it make the connection when the door is closed.

Just pull the chime out of the fuse/relay panel. It is the large blue rectangular item with what looks like a vent on the side of it. The problem is likely one of your fuses is blown. It has been so long since I have dealt with this issue I can't remember which fuse it is. From memory, I think it is the dome light circuit. I have encountered this on two 7-9 series cars.

Maybe a failed door-open sensor.

I had a 740 that would blow the radio fuse and then the chime would come on incessantly.

I think it was the radio fuse on the two cars I had a problem with, now that you mention it. It made no sense how the two were related in the wiring of the car.

I think the fuse blew on radio fuse (5?) then the current would backfeed thru the chime circuit. It was many years ago...

The same car had a problem where you would honk the horn and then the rear wiper would start wiping...

Meant to update this the other day.

Tinkered with the switches on the doors and tailgate one at a time. I'd never noticed them before. But I couldn't get the chime to cut off.

Pulled the relay out and all is peaceful again. Thanks guys.

Another possibility, mainly on the 200 series cars, is, if you plug the relay in backward, it'll chime constantly, as long as the key is in the ignition lock.

When this happened in my 95 it ended up being the fuse for the interior lights/dome lights. Replaced it and all was well.
