There's a special season for that?
Inspection is done the day of.What kind of tech inspection is required, do we have to get it done ahead of time and have documentation etc? (that is how the BMWCCA did it last time I did a track day).
Woah.I will definitely be in attendance.
Yeah, NA is no problem... Just makes things a bit more interesting when people have to come to a stop to let you by on the straights because you're faster everywhere else.Awesome. I am in for both.
As for NAs, they hold their own at Thunderhill. I was only at half boost this year at TH and still had a great time.
Who all did you pass at TH? Well, besides that Jeep SRT. Fast in a straight line, couldn't corner and was always off line.Yeah, NA is no problem... Just makes things a bit more interesting when people have to come to a stop to let you by on the straights because you're faster everywhere else.
What car were you driving? I passed an 855R/T5R, the Z06 Vette, was coming up on one of the S60Rs during one of the later run groups, was pretty close to the race Miatas depending on who was driving them and the V8 240 depending on the driver. I usually wasn't near many people on the track, and only got passed by the V8 240, the maroon 855, the race Miatas and the Porsches. I can't remember if there was anyone else that needed to get by... I wasn't happy when I pulled off the track during the open session and waited for someone that I could play with to pass, and then when I started to go back out they waved the flag for it being over... 80mi on the track just wasn't enough!!! Haha, so much fun.Who all did you pass at TH? Well, besides that Jeep SRT. Fast in a straight line, couldn't corner and was always off line.
For NA I was thinking of you and the guy in the 1800, at least for our run group.
I was running PBR/Axxis Ultimates all around, without dust shields on the front. That being said, they're no longer available I hear... Metal Masters in the back should be just fine, and as far as the front goes, I'd remove the dust shields and/or add some ducting to them. Metal Masters may manage if you aren't pumping too much power, but with real track tires and some actual power that's likely going to be a bit much. I don't really have a recommendation for a track compound pad for the front, but there is stuff out there that doesn't cost $200 an end. What are people running for track pads on the 240? I know the PBR Deluxe that we currently have are going to fade away like nobody's business... But hopefully there is a suitable alternative that isn't the $200/per end that I ended up with on my E30 last track day (carbotechs)...

Yeah, bit confused since I haven't heard back from my emails. Maybe they don't have new info yet.We need to send in registration?
Are you George or was there another one, or am I mixing up all those black 850s that were out there? Haha, yeah no turbo, automatic, 240...I was in the black 854R. The only car that passed me was the maroon vette, and that was only because I got stuck behind that Jeep for so long. Well, in the first 4 sessions. The open session I got passed by the Chevelle and 2 of the race miatas because they were right behind him, so I let them all through and followed. I pulled off the last session about 10 minutes before the end because my rear tires were picking up all the race rubber from the Group C guys and the rear was sliding all over.
I followed you for half a lap before you let me by. No idea you were NA when I was on the track. The black 855 you passed is a friend of mine. I am guessing he was being conservative in the corners and braking because that is where I really made ground on him.
I'm not sure if the RX7 conversion is worth the hassle. Sure there are more pads available, but did you REALLY look around to see what's available for the standard 240 stuff? The RX7 swap has less piston area... Buttttt, has a larger diameter rotor(with more mass, too). It's almost a toss up with regards to braking power(stock has a slight advantage, supposedly). See the discussion here: http://ovtuners.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=4313Thanks Kyle.
I've been doing some reading, and it looks like the RX7 conversion in the front would really open up the options for pads; while still not having to spend too much money. I was thinking maybe EBC Yellowstuff... Depending on how well the car is running, it is going to have sticky tires and quite a bit of power, so I don't think the PBR deluxes are going to cut it.
There are drags both Friday and Saturday night, according to PIR's website. The track day is Saturday, and people who have not done a track day before will be required to go to the ground school that is held on Friday night...Ohh just saw this. Now I have to get my beast running.. It hasn't been answered yet so I will ask again -- will there be drags? Lemme know.
Thanks
Renny
If you want to have a spot in the track day, absolutely. www.teamcontinental.com Peter says they are not going to have a Volvo class, so everyone will be grouped according to skill(and car speed, I'll be in group 2 because my car only will have 115-125whp). Sign up now if you want to be guaranteed a spot.We need to send in registration?
I haven't confirmed with the RSI guys, but see just above for the track day...Yeah, bit confused since I haven't heard back from my emails. Maybe they don't have new info yet.
Yes, I am George. I just reviewed my video again and it was in the middle of the first session. I was behind you for almost an entire lap. It was probably the 3rd lap since the first 2 were full course yellow. A black Vette passes you on the front straight and I catch you by turn 2. Didn't get by until the front straight again. I was going to catch that Vette, but the Jeep got in my way as usual. Are you George or was there another one, or am I mixing up all those black 850s that were out there? Which session did you pass me on? I only got three laps in the first session and had NO clue what was going on. I took too long taking the adapters off and putting the track wheels on to go out for the slow track walk around, and I had no idea what to expect. Never been on the track or seen video of it. By the third session I had most if it down, and by the end of the day I was flying, relatively speaking. I didn't want to stoppppppppppp! So much fun.
haha for about 30 seconds I thought that the lucky over on OVT was our lucky.
Ah, cool. Yeah, I was basically stopping on the first session at every hill and blind corner, lol. I had Toyo R888 tires on, so I was no slouch once I learned the track. There was the C6 maroon Vette that was fast, but the C5 Z06 was a slouch once I learned the track. Tons of fun, will definitely be there next year again! There's also the new track out in Grass Valley, OR that is a whole 'nother sort of elevation changes... Do this track day with TC in June, and you're able to get the green light for the track day over there at Oregon Raceway Park with TC in Grass Valley later this year. THAT is going to be NUTS. Thunderhill is the main reason I go to the Davis show. I have done 4-5 track days there now, so I know the course well. Love the elevation change.
Thanks for the info. I will register directly with Team Continental.
Yep, trade-offs. Check out Hawk, I think they have some stuff for us. And I'm not sure if the actual pads are different between the ABS 240s or not, but I'm 95% sure they're the same thing...Apparantly they have 36mm pistons vs 38mm pistons of the stock 240... But they have a bigger pad... I dunno to me having the option of running better pads is worth it... I haven't looked a ton of places, but I have looked at brands that I know, Carbotech, EBC, etc etc... And there seem to be offerings for newer 240's with ABS, but not the older ones (now correct me if I'm wrong that they are different calipers)... I'm not totally sold on Lucky's argument over on that OVT thread, but I don't want to clutter this up here.. Just was having issues registering for some reason... Anyhoo, I already have the 740 jumbo's, so all I'd need is a set of JY calipers and a set of pads to give it a try. hmm. We'll see.
