745 into Pickup

A remote start? I'm not installing one. My wife will never ride in a vehicle that has one, after I ran myself over with the last vehicle I owned that had one. Doesn't matter that this is auto & that was a stick 🤪
thats how my wife is about everything stick, she thinks it'll run me over.

Please explain how this happened.

Car (98 V70XC) had a remote start when I got it.. I converted it to M66 AWD as part of the mods I did over a number of years. I didn't remove the remote start. Since there was no neutral safe guard, one day when leaving work, I hit the remote start, but had knocked it into 1st or 3rd when I got out. The wheels were turned to the left, which was where I was standing. I watched the 235/40x18 drive up my foot, I tried to pull it out, and between the tire running up my calf & me yanking my leg sideways, my tibia snapped in two. Students in the gym heard the POP & came out, one ran & got a principal who called the ambulance. No one would take a pic of the tear or bone, not even my son. For all the pain I was in, I wanted to see what it looked like.

My wife called the car Christine. Another time I got my left hand scissored in the window regulator. I had to lift the mechanism back up to get my hand out & then get the finger sewn back together.

Cylinder head finally back from FL. Hopefully get in any least placed tomorrow before the predicted 2 days of rain start Thursday

Wrapping up interior stuff. Added the grey centre console & dash panels, so I painted the console insert beige to offset. Volvo only offered it black on these.

Finally installed the backup camera also. Running the RCA feed to the tailgate took a little while. Also, the wiring is pretty simple once you know what needs to happen, but provided documentation is ****.

Added the white stripes to the sides. Undecided. I'll ;eave it on a while & see if it grows on me.

that car was always trying to get you in creative ways, but it sure was a beautiful car.

oh god, I hated the instructions they provide for those cameras. my new goto is to trash em and just hook them up the same as the rest, and if something isn't working then maybe dig it out of the trash to see if I missed something. so far I'm 10/10. I really should get around to installing the double din kit I have. I'd really like a reverse camera on the 740, I've just been putting it off because of the wide angle rear view mirror already on the car.

I really enjoyed modding that wagon - can't beat the satisfaction you get from listening to a 5cyl at 8-9K rpm & when muscle/performance car owners can't understand why they can't walk on a old VOLVOwagon 😁
In hindsight, I should have got another vehicle to use for DD status, as this one was so far removed from stock that it was not reliable for DD use anymore, and I was constantly working on things to make sure it was still drivable the next day to work. Not a good situation.

Long day today on the C30. I'm definitely not as spry as I used to be.
Changed the 4 heater hoses first

index.php

Oiled the 10 head bolts & torqued in 3 stages; 14ft/lb, 44ft/lb & 130º

index.php

Cams placed, lock tool positioned after this, before cover is centered

Anaerobic gasket spread with roller. Put some on the head too.
index.php

Cover torqued 12ft/lb, hold down tools removed

Minimal squeeze out all around, so I think I'm OK
index.php

New plugs FR7N133
index.php

Cam seals installed, VVT solenoids, cam sensors, oil filler with new orings
index.php

After that, I tried to close up as much as possible before the rain tomorrow, just want to keep condensation out of the motor. Had trouble with the downpipe. Took over hour to get the bolts in. One snapped & that took some time to extract.

Mungo impressed!

Now, are those cam seals (red color) from Elring? Or are the OE seals for the WB now red material? I was expecting to see the VOLVO grey I've become accustomed to on the RB tractor engines. Outstanding work, as we have come to expect from LFJ.....

Those are Corteco - the Elrings are also red, but more brown. This is what FCP includes if you buy a seal kit. The Genuine Volvo seal is the same red as the Corteco seal in this case.

Drove to Philly today to spend a couple hours with my daughter, who was up from FL for a World Languages Conference. About 1/2 hour north of Philly on I95 a woman literally drove into the passenger side of the truck, in her impatience for the vehicle in front of her also merging onto the highway. I called the state police & they said just to exchange info, since no injuries. That was all good until her fiancee showed up in the Ford & started yelling at me & my wife. We left, & called the police back to let them know there was an incident. They said they had noted the 'irate' call from him just before we called.

Anyhow, I now have to fix the not rusted formerly pristine door. Getting the body side trim is going to be the toughest part. Definitely could have been much worse, since she was accelerating hard to merge.

Her Chevy. I pulled my side trim from her wheel arch. I should have left it for the pic.

I was w aiting on a few parts that I need to install before I can put the rest of the C30 motor back together. Just doing odds & ends

Volvo Radiator hoses, thermostat and housing
index.php

New alternator. I have about 130K miles on mine, and it's not easy to access
index.php

Installing a new water separator for the EBP side of the dual boost gauge, along with new SS tubing & fitting at the manifold
index.php

Pulled the crank gear and replaced the crank seal
index.php

index.php

Repaired the wiring to the right crash sensor - it was damaged back when I installed a Porsche TB in place of the stock unit. I removed after about a year, but the inlet hose had already chafed the harness by then. That was at least 7 years ago now, and it was time to fix it before it potentially set a SRS code that I can't undo without a trip to the dealership.

No rain today, so I was able to get some work done on the motor. Got the PCV tube I had been waiting for installed, then the timing inner cover, water pump, and the cam gears, timing belt, idler & tensioner
index.php

index.php

index.php

Gears & hubs placed with marks straight up. Hubs are not keyed to the cams, so they can go on any which way, as long as the cams are locked at the rear, the timing will be correct. The issue can arise that the hubs don't have enough advance or retard, so safer to put them back as they were originally. Blue dot marking indicates intake, white dot is the exhaust
index.php

Belt went on without drama, Easiest if it is eased on over the edge of each gear & tensioner & pushed on fully once each gear is engaged.
index.php

Tensioner adjusted to mid (temp) point, motor rotated by hand 2x to check crank & cam timing marks
index.php

Check crank gear marker against oil pump cover ridge
index.php

Cam markers
index.php

Problem was I forget to reinstall the engine mount bracket that has to go on prior to intake cam gear install, so I had to take it all apart again
index.php

Take II. Of course this time the belt took more work to get on & timing set. Note 3 bracket bolts NOT tightened yet.
index.php

index.php

With the cam hubs torqued to 85ft/lb, and the hub caps torqued to 26ft/lb, I removed the cam lock tool & installed the cam sensors and cam plugs. Cam sensor wheels torqued to 16ft/lb
index.php

index.php

index.php

Then back to the front to install the outer timing covers & the forward motor mount & safety
index.php

Hopefully button it up over the weekend. Thanksgiving plans tomorrow, Back to Ithaca Friday to hoping to make an offer on a home.

I'm glad you've got all this WB magic sorted out. I'm going to need some lessons for my 5 hole and the future 6 hole.

Sorry about the idiot driver..... not much worse than being the victim of a clueless driver and the mayhem they create for you. A life lesson I suppose... it does no good to get angry about it. As we say in the south.... "You can't fix stupid"

Still don't have it back together. Now it's too cold - just over 30ºF today, so I only worked for a few hours. Had to drill out the mount bracket for the AC tensioner - one pin had snapped off - upper
index.php

Tensioner & belts installed
index.php

index.php

Had to order the fuel feed line - the braided portion ruptured when I moved it around. Waiting for that now, and the tool to release the fitting
