Sometimes when I start my car, all the warning lights come on idling. Then if I give it just a little gas they go out, seems to be charging fine. The headlights don't dim when this happens. The whole bottom row in the dash come on. I repaired the alternator wire harness that wraps around the bottom of the oil pan in the front where there is a heat issue. But when the harness was bad it wouldn't charge at all. Thats why I don't think it's that. And if it was the alternator, wouldn't just the battery light come on? Not all of the warning lights, (ABS, SRS, ect.) Any ideas? Thank You, Richard

same thing has always happened with mine and most of the electrical is new, including the 100a alt.

when my car does that, the volt gauge shoes very low, when the car is revved or driving around the volts go back up. Shouldn't an alternator produce the same Volts at any RPM?

Well, my wife just got home, she said at the store she started it and the lights were on, then gave it gas and they went out. I went out and started it and the lights were on. checked charging system...11.8 gave it gas ..lights went out ..rechecked charging system...13.9. Now I don't know. If it was the alternator, just the battery light should come on, correct? Not all the warning lights. This thing is driving me nuts. Maybe I'll take wire harnesss apart that goes to alternator in front of the oil pan.

1) belt tension
2) "squidgy" alternator MOUNTS (the rubber goobies..replace w/UREATHANE)
3) Bosch alternators *NOTORIOUSLY* weak @ LOW rpm.."kick in w/good Voltage
around 1800 / 2000rpm..under that they just don't charge...
4) *ALL* of the "dash lights will come on when the VOLTAGE IS LOW (nature of the
beastie)
5) clean and tighten *ALL* charging circuit connections..be ESPECIALLY AWARE
of *ground wires* and the one AT THE ALTERNATOR that goes to the engine side
the engine mount and *shake rattle roll the cables just down from the terminals near
the battery *FAMOUS* for have crap wire INSIDE the insulation where the "creepin'
blue crud" does capillary attraction inside the sheathing
6) well worn BRUSHES on the regulator *and / or* OIL / WATER / CRAP getting
to the INSIDE of the alternator where the brushes are
6) weak or partial failure of ONE DIODE in the rectifier bridge
7) failing WATERPUMP leading to flaky BELT TENSION (wiggle the fan blades
and look for WOBBLE at the pump pulley.
8) intermittent solder joint failure on the dash circuit board
9) failing IGNITION SWITCH (high resistance in KOER mode KeyOnEngineRunning)
10) failure to sacrifice a goat at new years...shame on you!

*PLUS* all the OTHER suggestions as noted by fellow fettlers....
