'93 245/auto: OD working oddly

Hi all,

I drive the car 4000 rather easy freeway miles per month. A year ago it got a new transmission.

2000 miles ago it started shifting (e.g., park-drive; park-reverse, 2nd-3rd) somewhat oddly sometimes. I flushed the transmission fluid using IPD's system. With about 35000 miles on it, the old fluid smelled fine, looked fine, and felt fine. I used Chevron Dextron 3. The somewhat odd shifting disappeared.

1000 miles ago there was one instance where it didn't want to shift from 2nd for about a minute, but the OD routinely started engaging later (at a higher rpm) than unusual and over the last few days the OD went nuts.

Symptoms are minimal until about 15 minutes of operation and don't get worse after 30 minutes of operation.

It shifted in and out of OD several times in 10 seconds (sometimes), downshifted from OD when letting off the throttle, wouldn't shift into OD even when coasting at 90 mph. Sometimes it would operate normally for minutes at a time.

Fluid and level were/are fine. The solenoid and/or relay clicked, the dash light went on an off with push of the shifter button. It downshifted from OD with a push of the shifter button.

I then bought and installed IPD's solenoid-elimination plate. So far (100 miles) the only symptoms are failing to upshift into OD normally and downshifting from OD too soon.

I then disconnected the kick-down cable, but it still didn't shift into OD normally.

The kick-down cable seemed fine, but I lubed the cable, put some slack into it, and reconnected it. No difference.

I'm going to flush the fluid again.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Marty

I am having this same problem. The fluid level is peachy, but it down shifts under anything more than 1/8 of the pedal.

If I am driving faster than 62-64 MPH it stays locked in gear and drives like normal. I have to pretty much just floor it to 60 if I am on a hill, so I am not getting the best mileage right now.
