940 Brake Upgrades.

I dont get the troubles about the booster.. I have a 16v brakebooster which is "smaller" thean the 8v and i can block the wheela at 100kmh really easy...

If you want to faster slower you need to push it harder ;)

MadDog, the OP stated that a bone stock 95 would stop much faster AND with "less push harder" than the earlier cars. I'd like to have both pieces for MO' WHOA .....

My 16v is 93, my NATO is 96... There is no difference in braking... Hm.. I dont know.. Do whatever you want ;)

The reason I asked for a 2nd opinion on the 95+. The OP has vanished, and you are the only other to drive the later.

He claimed he confirmed P/Ns, and everything else in the system (brake master, calipers, rotors) show the exact same parts used 92-98. Well, I'll update this thread once mine are installed and running (end of summer, hopefully).

Going off nothing more than the feel of pressing these brake pedals, I can't tell any significant difference in my '95 940 turbo and my girlfriend's '90 740 turbo. I can't say either of them are pushed to the limits ever though.

My '96 940 had a squishy pedal feel with long travel. Possibly a setup issue, but I would prefer to stick with the older master cylinder combined with bigger rotors. Maybe it was the presence of an ABS system that made it worse, I dunno, but my non-ABS 740 has a much nicer pedal feel.

The OP claimed all the 9 series master cylinders are same, 91-98. Seems no one has taken his position..... If no one stands up for the 95+ servo booster, I might just keep my 92 hardware and add the 302mm rotors and 850 calipers.

I think 16v slim booster is good, as well. Anyone has info on their ratio? Is it the same thing as in 24v cars? I had one from a 24v in my diesel, made a world of difference with the rest of hardware stock.

IIRC, V70R had 320mm brakes, while T-5's had these 302mm ones. Or am I wrong? WWD cars, I keep away from.

No real values, but you def. Need moar muscle to push the pedal and its real hard and not so chewinggum like..

Picked up the subject 95 BOSCH (Bendix on the tag) black brake servo/vacuum booster from my local PnP yesterday. Once cleaned up, will take some pics and add to this thread. Pulled the brake pedal assy. with the new switches and plug for both (brake switch and cruise switch) as recommended by the OP. Interestingly, IPD states that this BOSCH version only came into usage after a certain chassis # for the 95 cars ..... which the donor was.

Worst case - have a 136K mile part which is equal to the original in performance (my chassis has ~225K miles on it)

Best case - the suggestion of the OP that these parts provide improved braking, is validated

I won't be able to provide incremental improvement most likely.... as the 302mm rotors and later calipers will go in as a package deal.

Skandix.de caliper mounts have arrived, as have m 850/C70 calipers (57mm piston, same as original 940s). I've only to source the caliper pins and plastic covers/caps, then buy the SHCS and make the spacers. Will post up pics soon....... as well as what these parts cost me.

Anyone else considering going this route for their 9 series, good deal on a fully loaded reman. caliper:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/400761124722

They also have the opposite side available; this they showed about 4 more sets onhand. I got my set of Beck/Arnley loaded calipers...... truth is that the 57mm piston is no bigger than the original 9 series caliper. For this price & your time, you can't rebuild your own 9 series calipers (and this price does NOT require a core charge).

I'm waiting for someone to offer some adapters for upgrading to an easily sourced set of OE brembos, like what mopar318 offered to run ATS brembos on 240s. I wish I had more time, my dad has plenty of connections to have some adapters designed and made, but alas I have no time and will have even less in about 3 weeks.

Dale had begun development of a Wilwood retro package for the 7/9's....... his test mule setup came up in the FS section about 6 months ago. I asked for pics, and 5 minutes later they were sold. He claimed it would take the car right to the limit of the rubber....not a lot more info. was provided as they sold damn quick.

I'm wheel constrained on my 9 as I've gone DOWN to a 16" MSW wheel setup, and I suspect this OP suggested 940 upgrade will barely clear. I hope to have this OP suggested setup (just the wheel portion) running on my DD and I should have some impressions for you soon. It's all about the 302mm rotor and that additional leverage, as the binders are no different. I'll keep the news in this thread for those of us (damned fools :wtf:) who still run the Gpa's.
