940T motor mounts

Compared to the OE mounts in good shape you will feel the engine vibration 100% of the time. It is just most noticeable at idle because there are no road vibrations/noises to drown out the engine vibrations.
It does "feel" smoother at higher RPM/frequency though. that'll also help with ignoring it.

how does the solid mount 7/9 experience compare to the 240's stock solid mounts? never owner a 7/9.

I have never driven one. I think the solid mounts were only used up until 1986. The oldest 7 series I have owned was a 1985 760 Turbo. It had the hydraulic mounts in it.

gotcha. my experience with 240s was that (especially if the engine was out of tune like mine) you got a lot of vibration at idle especially in park, and you could still notice it while rolling, but it all smoothed out and was pretty much a non-issue at that point.

Got around to the motor mounts today. Both mounts were worn but probably had a little life left in them.

What didn’t have any life left was the transmission mount. Rubber was completely separated. Fortunately I bought one of those with the motor mounts.

While I'm thinking about engine mounts and oem vs aftermarket, I wonder how impactful it is to use an oem volvo transmission bushing versus say a bilstein aftermarket.

I’m not sure you can still get OEM Volvo mounts at all. I bought a brand called Anchor from rock auto. They seem like decent quality.

Frankly, I don’t want super stiff mounts. A car that rides so hard it shakes your teeth loose is not appealing at this point in my life.

The volvo branded transmission mounts are still available, though likely will be gone in the next few years

Agreed, I'm fighting a holy war against NVH at this point, and it seems like the original equipment is the only way to win :/ I guess when the aftermarket exists in the first place because of tuners etc you end up with most of your options being "sportier" stuff than stock.

The Anchor mount is $7.25 from rock auto. I’m quite happy with how it’s riding. I took the car on a long test run after installation this afternoon.

I don't see an anchor brand transmission mount on rockauto - are you talking about those engine mounts from earlier?

Lookup Anchor 2675, it’s a transmission mount. You might try selecting a 94 940 for vehicle search.

Yeah it looks like rockauto doesn't show it for cars earlier than 94, but I'm not surprised with the shoestring budget they run on

I would assume it would fit any later model 7/9 series car with an AW71. At that price buying a few extra to have on the shelf is an option.

I should probably source a drive shaft carrier bearing and mount as well.

I would actually leave that alone if it's not causing issues. It seems like many people have issues with more vibration after replacing the mount and bearing

Mine was very broken. The rubber was completely separated. The new mount cured all my driveline vibration issues.

The transmission mount came from rock auto. The transmission mount was the broken part. The drive shaft carrier seemed to be intaced but I ran out of time to check it yesterday. If the drive shaft carrier needs replaced I’ll get that from rock auto as well.

Volvo did a good job with the transmission mount. It is captured and has stops built into it so that when it fails the stops keep the drive line at a reasonable angle unlike a 240 that allows the trans to drop down so far the drive line can't go through the angle it is running at. IOW, unless you know these cars very well or crawl under them and take a look you may not realize when the trans mount has failed. It is actually easy to tell without even jacking the car up. Looking across the car kneeling on the ground if you see the stud and nut protruding past the transmission cross member the mount has failed and is sitting on the built in stops.

I usually replace the transmission mount with the Meyle brand mount.

My bad, I was talking about the driveshaft carrier bearing and bearing mount
