All you need to know about the M90

Don't know if same/different, but I listed the SACHS release bearing part# early in this thread....came with my LUK (Sachs) 940 TDI clutch for the dogfish & M90.

The release bearings for the m46&m90 are different. I ended up finding the one was I using when I had the M90 installed in my previous 940 and it was the same one you had listed, part #3151 189 232. I did have an m46 one laying around as well and the tabs appear to be different, as how it sits on the clutch fork. It might still work although I went ahead and reused the m90 specific release bearing.

So is it even worth posting a want ad for a whiteblock M90 or is it getting pretty impossible to get one in the states? Or is it pointless because you really need multiples in case something goes wrong?

I'm doing a RWD whiteblock and the simplicity is really appealing.

Contact TIZ in the UK; I bought my redblock M90 from him. He claimed he had his eyes on some of the Whiteblock versions....no idea if he ever delivered any to the States.

Sorry if this is a noobish question but can I run this setup:

Option #1:
Standard 850 T5-R (240/250HP) clutch setup. Good for up to almost 420NM.

Clutch disc, organic, 20 splines, 240mm, Sachs p/n: 1862 428 133.

with a redbock and dual mass? As for the time being I won't be upgrading the flywheel and Im making around 220-230bhp

Pressure plate, 240mm, Sachs p/n: 3082 254 232.

I think the normal dual mass clutch should work for that amount of HP. iirc the clutch that came out of my parts car (1995 940 with M90) was the same as an 850 2.4T something.

The pressure plates are significantly different for dual mass vs single mass, but I don't know for sure about the clutch plate itself. The clutches for the single mass have springs in the hub while dual mass often don't, so there's that as well.

I agree that the stock clutch will be fine.

Hi, has anybody checked this setup:
- solid flywheel from m46/m47 lh 2.4
- pressure plate 940 diesel m90 with 20splines
- 850 glt 228mm clutch disc?

I can't find used tdi m90 clutch disc to go for sinter. Can I use 850 glt 228mm disc with no issues?

If you had an AW70, AW71 or AW71L automatic gearbox to start with, then you can keep the transmission crossmember since that is the same p/n as the M90 crossmember. You will also need the mounting bracket for the M90 (number 16 in the last picture of gearbox parts) since that is not the same as the AW7x bracket. The crossmember from the AW7x gearbox is then moved forward in the car and mounted in the front threaded holes in the body a few inches in front of the AW7x holes (yes, there are pre-made holes for using the M90).

Which one bracket is this? There are no picture's :-(

can somebody repost a picture of the flat/solid flywheel used in many 850's and early S/V70's that will fit my whiteblock with m90 gearbox and 240mm clutch?

This is a '97 850R flywheel purchased brand new, part number 9454774. Also the R clutch kit, p/n 272218. I have a used one in my garage right now and the wear pattern does appear to be 240mm, or 9.44 inches.

Sorry if it's in this topic and I've missed it, but could anyone share the dimensions of a M90, I'm particularly interested in these ones:
