My rack is toast, and the one i tore apart had a junk seal surface. I was going to look at retrofitting something else.

Let me know if you want to sell that ZF core.Hey all, one thing I am not clear on is what I will have to do to convert my zf rack to a new CAM repro. I think I need a mounting kit but which one? Also steering shaft needs to be changed I assume? I don't want to get rid of the zf but if you pour in fluid it literally comes right out of the seals and I don't know of anyone who will rebuild them.
Well ideally I'd like to keep it and get it rebuilt. But I imagine the turnaround time to sellholm and back is pretty slow...is that the only one that will rebuild them?Let me know if you want to sell that ZF core.
I’m collecting racks to send to Sellholm for quick rack rebuilds
Other places will rebuild them, Sellholm puts in a new rack and pinion and makes the steering 2 or 2.5(?) turns lock to lock. It’s not cheap, but it is proper.Well ideally I'd like to keep it and get it rebuilt. Yes, that is all you need to do. Replace the shaft and u-joint that runs from the u-joint at the end of the column down to the steering rack. And, of course, have the rack mounting kit for the type of rack being installed. The early racks have a smaller input shaft/spline. I think you can use a later rack if you get the shaft with u-joints between the column and rack from a later car.
The type of rack used has to do with supply AFAIK. I don't think either manufacturer was able to produce enough racks so Volvo used whatever was available at the time.

That's the same one being sold by iPD, AAE is a brand owned by CRP Automotive. I've had one from iPD in my car for a little less than a year now and it's been great. Went into the car without having to clearance anything. If your car has a ZF rack you'll need a mounting kit for a CAM rack.Came across this today. Doens't appear its been discussed. Rockauto now lists a new 240 rack for $359. Shipping to my place showed up as $25. Manufactured by AAE and has a 2 year warranty.

Do you have a link for these mounting kits? I will need one, and will likely go with the one mentioned in RockAuto. That's the same one being sold by iPD, AAE is a brand owned by CRP Automotive.
