240 Anyone try the VP Autoparts 240 steering rack?

I hope they stepped up their quality. Maval used to be good stuff but they tanked in quality a while back. Put one in the 850 back around 2013, lasted a year before it blew a seal. Given the work involved, went with Cardone (car down situation), lasted 5 years before it was trashed. Went with a lo mile JY unit, still in the car 100k later.
Around the same time I was doing yearly replacements of the Maval's (lifetime warranty) for 5 years before I had enough and went JY for it as well. The shop I was buying from mentioned they'd seen the same thing and finally stopped selling the brand as a whole.

Per my previous post, VP is selling the rack at a steep price increase, so even with European shipping costs on a single rack, CVI is $200 cheaper from Europe.

CVI has indicated they are willing to arrange a group buy on these racks, but only in the form of pallet freight of 15-20 racks to the US. While this would undoubtedly save a lot in shipping, I'm not sure it would do us a lot of good considering the differing locations of TB'ers. Trying to get racks to individuals after pallet arrival doesn't seem like it would pencil out.

What am I missing? Do group buys here generally rely on a bulk product discount but retains individual shipping?

If we could figure out the logistics, I'd definitely be interested in a group buy

Since it is shipping from overseas a pallet makes sense. Cheapest way to do international shipping. In group buys I've seen in the past sometimes one individual takes delivery and then ships the parts out to the final recipients. It usually means a lot of legwork for one person.

CVI quotes $125 to ship to my address in Portland, OR for a single rack. I can accept freight pallets at my business, but after re-packing and re-shipping via UPS, the cost to ship to individuals is likely going to eat up any of that freight savings from what I can see.

Yeah group buys are a lot of work for the one organizer but the hope is that when buying 20 units at once you can talk to them about a bulk discount. Rather than paying full price for each unit pay a discounted price, you would have to do the math and see what kind of bulk rates you can get then figure out how much it?ll cost to ship the racks individually. Just ask them if they would offer a bulk discount. That?s more than likely what VP does when ordering them so that they can in turn make a profit off of them.

Shipping a rack here in the US will run $75-$100. There is no savings to be had with a group buy. Not unless you are Amazon with an ultra cheap deal on shipping.

Unless you are already shipping entire containers over like VP does.

My point was for a group buy there is no appreciable savings, unless, you are getting a huge discount on the racks by buying in volume. I doubt you could get more than 5 people on here to commit to buying a new rack.

How much discount can cvi really do? A pallet from overseas will not be cheap. If you need one, just buy it. Hopefully it's a long lasting solution.

I wonder if vp would be interested in a group buy?

Not that I wouldn't buy from VP in a group effort, as I actually looked at the rack there first, but their current USD list price is $242 more than CVI's price. So a group buy from VP would need to come with pretty steep discounts to beat CVI, even with international shipping.

VP quoted $65 to ship the rack to me, CVI quoted $125.

Has anyone done business with the company Unisteer? Their prices seem reasonable. They are in Ohio, a group buy might make more sense from a company here as opposed to overseas. Possibly a group buy with 240, 740 and 940 racks?
