So i have this P221 Amazon build with a 230FT, 15g, ported turbine housing, ported 90+ manifold, mild ported head, IPD turbo performance cam, big intercooler, some mslike ecu, wideband, 37 lbs injectors, at 18psi, 2.5" sport exhaust.
Never dyno'd it but it's fast :).
It's not a DD and i don't abuse it, not drifting (yet), regulary doing some hard pulls.
I swapped the M40 box for a M46 (because i have 3 of them laying around) and so far its holding pretty well.
The rear end is a 240 3,73:1. Shifting is not a lot of fun with this box and obviously it is weak.

After reading through a lot of tranny swap info, i kind of accidently stumbled into the auto (aw71) thing.
I'm not familiar with autos, here in Europe they are not common and i realy don't like them at all.
My knowledge about them is poor, but as far i can tell the following:
(i added some weigth as importance to me)

PRO
10 Handles a lot more power than a stock manual
07 Easy and cheaper to swap than T5, getrag, ...
06 Smooth and quick shifting (+ accum. mod)
04 Easy (lazy) driving
makes 27 Pro points

CONTRA
10 Power loss, i read like between 5 to 10 % in drivetrain, some even say 15%
08 Limited RPM
08 Less control over shifting
05 Less obvious drifting techniques required to drift
01 Car can not be pushed into a start on a low batery
makes 32 Contra points

Clear that it's a no-go, or... this might not the final score?
I'm curious what else could add more weight to the pro's or con's.
Anyone?

A well-sorted AW71 will take a lot of abuse and be quite efficient, actually...especially the L boxes with the fancy torque converter. Your car would also be faster drag racing. Most issues people have with them stem from old and abused boxes in dire need of overhaul.

That said, since you are in Belgium, why don't you just grab an M90 box out of a late 940?

The m90 will require a lot of mods to fit in the tunnel. It isnt small.
Yes there HUGE, the M47 fits with a minor cut to the top of the tunnel, in fact it is only the shifter mechanism that is in the way.

I thougth about M90 and cutting some more but the Amazon is not that big of a car so i might have not enough floor left for my feet :)

Pretty sure it's the same story with the AW. Last time I checked, it barely fit in the tunnel of a 240...
