760 B230FT Exhaust Manifold bracket pic?

Does anyone have a picture of the exhaust manifold bracket? I'm taking the manifold off with the engine in the car, and I can't see what I should be wrenching.

Related: Is there a torque spec for the Turbo-downpipe flange studs/nuts?

there is a stud on the rear bottom of the manifold, stud facing down, i had a hell of a time getting it off, ended up stripping the threads and opted to take the bolt out of the block, it was still a pain in the ass

I'll take a pict tomorrow. The bracket is t-shaped with the leg under the manifold and top against block. I believe the nut under a manifold is 13mm.

Found some!

Mine was not in the air either... otherwise my apartment complex would get rather pissy at me. Unless you car is lowered you should be able to crawl under it like I did. What *I* would suggest is to take the two bolts on the block if you can't get the nut underneath the exhaust manifold.

About the exhaust manifold nut, you have to use a 6-side socket. Open end wrench or 12pt something can round it up as you can see happening to mine. Also, as you can see from the picture, I used a short 1/2" drive socket, long extension, and breaker bar.

About the other exhaust nuts, if you need to replace them get VW exhaust nuts. They are copper-clad (i.e. should not seize in place) and locking type. And cheap.

You're referring to the ones for the studs? I already have copper locking type nuts. Are washers recommended overtop of the fat/convex washers? or just for the spark plug shields?

I *think* you should be able to pull manifold+turbo out. That said, you may need mind the oil feed line.

About the bracket underneath the manifold, you should be able to get all 3 bolts if you can crawl under the car; I did it myself and do not think it would be an issue specially if you turn the wheels to the hard left.

If you unbolt the two bolts on the block side of the bracket, you can then just pull the entire mess away from the engine instead of having to pull it up a bit to clear the stuff off the bracket. At least that is what I would do. YMMV. Pour salt as needed.

Very good information.... The JY had a nice turbo exhaust manifold and all the bolts were already off but.... you guessed it except the one referenced in this thread. So I took the bait and after having the socket slip off the nut... it looks like the previous attempt rounded it off. I'll take a different approach now that I see the entire picture.

Thanks.

My Master Mechanic friend said he used to just *zip* cut it off. And something about slotting the manifold or something.

I'm not going to be doing that...

If and only if you get a good straight line to the nut, get a chisel and make a notch on its side (parallel to how the stud goes). That will weaken the nut so it will come off rather easily.

I would slot the stupid bracked -- once off the car -- before doing the same to the manifold.

So I went and bought one of those "multi-size" ratcheting wrenches. Pulled out the rounded nut+stud.

Here's what I used...

And the nut/stud. Pretty...um..."rounded" now.
