Sorry if this is long winded. I'm a long time member but I've never posted before. Usually I can find what I need from searching the forums. I've owned over 20 volvo's since 1999 currently 6 and I am a professional mechanic. However I am posting this to get opinions:

Tomorrow I am driving 1000 miles round trip from MO to OH to buy a 1989 745 T m46. towing it back because of a hard rod knock.

Here's the question: I have 1993 245 with 130,xxx miles that runs great but the body is beat. My plan is to take the long block from my 245 and put it in the 745. Should I use the head from the B230FT on the B230F block or can I just swap the long blocks and be on my way. I don't plan on building it for more HP (at least not yet) just going to be a stock daily driver. But I do drive hard. My foot is heavy. thoughts? opinions?

You will have to drill the block to install the oil return pipe from the turbo on the 240 engine. And run premium gas.

Not much difference between the heads honestly, just the sodium filled exhaust valves. Since it sounds like you're going the F+T route, if you plan to push it hard the turbo head would be better, but both will run just fine for quite some time. I've run a stock 230F head on mine for a good number of miles, no issues, flogging the car hard with E85 and high boost.

I think for now running the B230F and drilling a hole for the drain is my easiest option. Not too hard to swap the head later. Any body know where to get the freeze plug that blocks off the distributor. or the size.
