My 1993 volvo 850 seems to be burning quite a bit of oil (about a quart to a quart and a half of oil every tank), and I was wondering if anyone makes a rebuild kit for it. I have looked on ebay and other sites and haven't seen any rebuild kits or rebuilt engines, just used ones. I know I could probably get another motor from volvo, but after seeing how much a cv joint costs from them, an engine will probably cost more than I paid for the car.

weird, no one's jumped all over the poor guy about "wrong section! noob! fail!" and all that bullsh*t. good job, guys.

How do you check the crankcase ventilation system? I noticed it is this canister instead of a hose that runs from the top of the valve cover to the intake. When I got the car, it didn't have a flame trap in the hose going to the intake, so I got one and installed it, but every time I have taken the intake hose off to clean it out or service something, I have noticed there is a decent amount of oil around the flame trap. I haven't been able to find anything about how to service this type of crankcase ventilation system. Is the canister supposed to be replaced periodically?
