Best in tank feed fuel pump, main and pre parts options for 240

Thinking about the VDO. Is that the original? Don't want the unbranded ipd ones I've heard bust after a year. Will I have to shorten metal line tube with pipe cutter for clean cut? Going to order the bung nut tool or whatever. Received the Bosch main pump made in Czech today; it says a pre-screen is needed for warranty but isn't provided. Also need the little hose with metal hardware on both ends. ipd has rubber one that's unbranded aftermarket. Any recommendations on these parts?? Like to do it right so it lasts another strong 300,000

Get an genuine Bosch 0 580 254 040 internal fuel pump and an 0 580 254 044 external fuel pump.

They are both good for 300 LPH @ 5 bar (max 8) and should provide adequate fueling for up to 550 hp.

The 044 is the standard fuel pump for a lot of porsches.

The usual 240 intank pump update is to use the 740 turbo one. Yes you will have to shorten the pipe a little. Other than that is is a straight forward update. Use one for say a 88 740 turbo. You will have to buy the matching sock filter too.

BTW my 1979 242 came with a vdo intank pump as original. So if you can get the 740 turbo intank pump made by vdo you may have a chance at a good long service life.

I'm running a Chevy S10 Blazer intank pump meant for TBI. Pumps about 12 psi. This is with Bosch main pump.

Original in tank pumps are AC brand. I keep a few on the shelf if needed. Not sure if the very early pumps- that is, 70's vintage, were VDO. Every one I've pulled, even known originals, looked identical to the AC pumps and were even stamped "AC" on the bottom. If it is a pre-1984 car, upgrade to the later pump to reduce fuel starvation bucking issues. Main pumps are Bosch. I always stick with these and have had no problems whatsoever. They last as long as the originals it would seem.
