My seatbelts are getting ridiculously slow to retract - I have to manually feed them back into the reals on my 960. I?ve done lots of reading and the solution generally seems to be two things: clean the 25 years of funk out of the seat belt material itself, and retighten the spring in the retractor.
Ideally I?d do both of these things by removing the belt and retractor from the car, separating the two, and cleaning each by themselves, which I?m fine with. My issue is, none of the instructions I?ve read online indicate what to do with seat belts that have SRS equipment.
My seat belts have the pyrotechnic (I love saying that word) retractors. If I were to unplug these things in order to remove the belt from the retractor, what precautions do I need to take to avoid losing a finger?
I?m guessing:
1) unplug battery and give 30 minutes to allow all the systems to drain of power
2) make sure I?m grounded as I remove and disassembling the retractor
3) place some sort of rubber coating over the plug of the pyrotechnic ejector to reduce risk of static electricity setting it off.
Any other advice?
