Clonking from rear

I'd suspect the trailing arm bushings they are the ones that attach the rear end to the lower arm that the shock also attaches to and the sway bars. Hard to see them, but will cause the car to rear steer with pedal if bad.

Has the car ever been in a collision? Does it come from one side more than the other? I had this same problem same speeds. I had welded in a new rocker and some junk was stuck in there. Id try spraying cavity wax inside any panels you cant really see in

Hi,

Never been in a collision but have had the cills replaced, yes. They are frequently filled with wax, don't think that's it, but good thinking though.

I removed the anti-roll bar and took it for a drive. Again lowered the volume of the noise quite a bit, so either the bar amplifies the noise or the lower damper bolts are the problem.

I will remove the dampers next and inspects. I'm tempted to take it for a test drive without them, but not sure how unstable it would be.

Thanks

I removed one of the dampers yesterday. I will get new ones, as they are old.

Nothing immediately wrong though, no leaking, tight, eyes and mounts fine and they were secured properly. Only thing was they returned extremely slowly after being compressed.

I will remove and inspect the track-rod today although it is tight and looks in perfect condition.

P.S. Just checked, and the dampers are actually only eight years old. Replaced one of the fronts in '24 at only six years old. Not the quality I would expect from Bilstein.

OMG - It's fixed!

I was the dampers. Even though they seemed fine, the clonking is now gone. I had everything apart and checked all bushings and they are all like new and everything was tight, so can only be the new dampers that fixed it.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions.

The U joints might seem tight, unless you take them down and flex them by hand to see if they flex with out binding. Had that happen on a car I worked on they seemed tight but not when flexed, the one in question had X marks on the trunions. It is on my wall of shame now.
