I was sitting at work when out of the blue it starts spewing coolant. It was fine for a long time then just did this. I had recently replaced the expansion tank. It doesn't seem to be burning it. Nor is it in the oil in the crank case. Is my engine just had it? Any serious advice would be appreciated. I love volvo but this car has been a pain in my ass.. one thing after another

Split hose, loose hose clamp, leaking gasket, cracked reservoir, loose reservoir cap, bad freeze plug, bad water pump, cracked head, cracked block..........
Any serious advice would be appreciated.
Find leak.
Fix leak.

Is it possible that the thermostat went out?
Anything's possible, since you didn't say WHERE the coolant was spewing from, whether the engine was running or off, hot or cold, etc, etc... Much more information is needed to even begin diagnosing, especially if we're not standing in front of the car.

Well master it was warmed up.. and running, also it was blowing it out of the coolant expansion tank.. but.. here's the real kicker.. The next day it's just fine with zero issues

Look for cracks around the top of the cap. It seems like people torque those down with a nine foot long breaker bar sometimes and the plastic gets weak and splits.

To OP, if this happenes when very warmed up engine it could be HG...do hoses get really hard? Do you have bubbles in your coolant after spirited driving???

To OP, mind you hoses tend to get hard on these engines, but you'll know when is too much...Also does your temp gauge rises above middle? When was the radiator cleaned, if ever?
If temperature does not rises and you have too much pressure, 99% HG.

Did it get really warmed up, cause small HG fail would present itself when engine gets really hot, so the crack openes...
Changing expension tank is a tell-tell sign for HG BTW.

I had recently replaced the expansion tank

Is engine cooling system free of air?

Does the 5-cylinder have the same issues the straight-6 did in the early-mid '90s with weak springs and porous blocks?
