Diesel clutch on a B230FT?

Hello turbobrickers,

last week my Volvo 240 Turbo with B230FT had enough of the current M46 gearbox and decided that it wanted a new one :P

In the future i'm going for a M90 conversion, but for now, as the Volvo is my Daily Driver, it's getting a new M46 gearbox.

Along with the replacement of the Gearbox, i'm going to replace the clutch and the bearing.

Im currently running a stock B230FT clutch, but i want to upgrade to a Diesel clutch.

But now i need to order the right diesel clutch, because there are clutches with 22-splines and 20-splines. I need the 22-spline version, because a M46 has 22-splines. but i can't find a parts-number or a specific car that has this clutch.

On the local Volvo-forum, i found out that a '95 940 Diesel with M46 Transmissions uses a 240mm Clutch with 22-splines, but in other articles i found that it's a 228mm clutch.

Can someone specify the correct information and give me a specific car that has the right diesel-clutch(or a parts-number) to go with a B230FT, with stock flywheel and a M46 Gearbox.

With kind regards,

Rutger

According to the 'all you need to know about the m90' thread the 20 spline diesel setup is good for up to 400 nm. I don't know if the 22 spline clutch will take the same amount of torque...but who knows.

Maybe it uses the same pressure plate.

I have an used M90 diesel clutch together with the pressure plate and the flywheel.
The pressure plate is very same as the turbo M46 pressure plate. And I doubt the diesel one
is actually stronger.

my brother and I did a M90 conversion on his 780 T16V.
we used a 60-2 (LH2.4)solid flywheel, a 940TDic pressure plate with matching 940TDic throwout bearing and a frictionplate of a 850-R. We also spaced out the pivot bolt for the throwout arm.
It works nicely, has no trouble handeling the 200HP, 300+Nm of the B204GT but it is by no means as heavy as my own custom ordered SACHS sports pressure plate (+850R friction plate) that i used to have in my 940LPT. The Sachs sportspressureplate needs considerably more effort to operate.

This conversion has been documented multiple times here on TB. Including all partnumbers, also the SACHS sports pressureplate

is this diesel clutch also applicable on B23E?

The B23e comes with a 215 mm clutch.
The 940 tdi clutch is 228 mm.

But you can modify the flat flywheel to take a larger clutch.
There's a thread about fitting a saab 9000 aero clutch (240 mm) on a flat flywheel.

Ask John V.

Yeah but if he did ask me I would probably say "mensch, tell me what you plan for the future no what model car other people say you want, how much power--N/m are you secretly lusting to make......because it is smart to buy your stuff one time, not twice"

or something like that..

I'd mention I have nice steel flywheels for non-60-2 cars in a variety of bolt patterns and that whatever the size pressure plate---minimum 228mm please---we can just match the disc spines...and at a better price than Europe.

You think he's say what the planned mods and power are?
