Instead of replacing the entire rear end, I was wondering if I could just swap out the center differential off a 92-94 960 into my 90 Volvo 760.

Well seeing as he has a 760 some of those came with an open diff. some came with lockers. but all early 960 sedans and /940se sedans came with lockers

6 cylinder mk1 and 4 cylinder mk1 irs have different ratio's. also the drive shaft flanges are different.

Yes, I put a 3.31 lsd pumpkin out of a 960 into my 89 780......,then pulled it and dropped it in my 91 coupe.
In Canada, all 960s got the "winter package" lsd diffs. 3.31lsd was a good all around match with my m90.
Yes......just unbolted drive flange from diff and installed the one that matched the driveshaft.
