Door won't open!

The drivers side rear door of my 89 744 t will not open. The latch moves in and out, but nothing unlatches on the inside. I was told this will involve forcible and very ugly removal of the handle, and replacement of same, just to get in to diagnose it. I chose not to have this done, but am still wondering-can this be done from the inside without destroying the handle? Anyone done this for theirs?

I tried that, broke the crowbars and ruined the tranny in the tractor. Damned heavy duty cars :-D

can you take off the door panel and try and get a better look at it? i would think that it may just be stuck or unhooked, and some lube may help
Thanks, something along the line of the Brickboard solution. I was told by these guys they don't come apart too well that way, and foolishly went with it for a time. Got curious again, and thought I'd ask. Thanks for the help.

unlocking door

My back passenger door did the same thing,

I had to get the door panel off enough to get my hand in there, there is a rod going across from the handle to the latch on the door. there is a plastic clip that holds it in place. seems that when you try to open the door the rod bends and doesnt allow it to unlatch the door. I went to the dealer after i got the door open, and removed the door panel off all the way. You can also remove the speaker and try it that way. just drill out the rivets. hold the rod as close to the inside of the door as possible and try opening the door. the plastic clip came in a bag of 10 for 9 bucks if i remember. Now it works great.

Thanks for the tip. Long weekend, so time to do some of these minor annoyances, that may be one.
