Just got back to school and starting on the engine unit, sourced a low mileage B230F from a wrecked 940 spent today getting it torn down for a rebuild. The new motor will replace my dogged out 87 B230F in my 86 wagon.

I would like to use this thread to share my experiences and also to ask any questions i may encounter along the way.

Who knows? maybe i will take some pics and get it moved to the showroom:rofl:

Things as they stand now:

94 N/A Squirter block (head and oil pan off today and it looks great!)
Turbo head with a K Cam (Port work and valves?)
90+ (Needs porting)
T3 55 trim with .48 cossie housing (Needs Rebuild)
3 inch all the way
LH 2.4 swap

Thats all for today, tomorrow i should have the crank out and the block in the oven.

Please feel free to comment or offer advice. I will post questions and progress as it happens.

read the long squish/swirl/quench thread about why you should use a cometic HG to lower your octane requirements with those high compression pistons.
Have fun, and budget about double what you think for allllll the little stuff.

Well today got everything all measured up, and i have a fair bit of bore taper. enough so that im going to bore 0.012 over.

I will be using new mahle pistons and since i am replacing them i now have the option of using the turbo pistons. I know some people say that a 9.8 to 1 is fine for a turbo app but i am thinking the lower comp ratio would be benificial.

Thoughts and suggestions?

how much horsepower do you want? You don't need 3" exhaust, 2.5 is plenty for sub 300hp. Same with the turbo. Do some headwork and put some big valves in it and use a cheap rebuilt 15g off a 850t, chips on lh 2.4 and go make 200whp. It doesn't take much to make some decent power in a volvo, you don't really need forged internals unless you are shooting for a bunch of power, even then you'll need more transmission and rear end before you need forged stuff. I Think even doing the rebuild properly will set you back atleast $2k to do it right.

I already have the exhaust and turbo and im not doing forged internals. I can get whloesale stock pistons for cheap and since i need to bore/hone i wanted to get some feedback on na vs turbo pistons in relation to CR ratio. This is gonna be on pump gas.

Edit:Tranny class is next so i gotta decide on a T5 or a Getrag.

Goals are for 250 at the wheels with mikes chips.

and there are TONS of build threads in the showroom. mine included, in my sig. Cameron's from IPD, Jordan's as well.

meh no i'm the rye-tard. I should have figured that part out! No idea to be honest, I would say yes, as i don't *think* the rod bolts are torque to yield like the head bolts are.
