Fitting -'80 headlamps and bezels to a '93 240

I'm planning on getting >'80 4 round headlamps for my 93 245. I'm not converting to coffin hood, so I'm aware I'll need to modify/narrow a 86-on grille to fit the spacing of the earlier lights.

I haven't found any examples of this, but maybe I'm just not using the appropriate search terms. I don't have the lights yet, so I don't know how they align with the existing side markers. I'm pretty sure the marker cutout in the fender is substantially different than -85.

Anyone done this?

I may also convert to commando bumpers (linked thread), (another) if I can get the filler strips & find a spoiler that makes sense. I think the heavy bumpers will be appropriate for the pickup truck it will become

The whole front end changes in 1986 nothing prior bolts right up or aligns
I think the sweeds have a double round bezel they use on their race cars that I think can be found on one of the parts websites
I can’t remember and I’m on my phone

I know the complete nose was revised in '86, however the upper tie plate is the same - the -85 version superseded to the 86- version many years ago - 1315754. The lower valance/cowl is definitely different, however I didn't register that the spacing or offset was different enough to prevent the early lights & bezels fitting. I can always use a -'85 lower valance & vertical tie bar (1315499, 1202258) if I have to. The main concern would be whether the marker rake/angle would align enough to work.
What I don't want to have to do is convert/mod the cowl to use a coffin hood & have to deal with finding -'85 fenders to make the side markers align.

RWC knew the details of this.... he and I discussed years ago. Perhaps a search will turn up his thoughts and the method(s)?

I remember seeing rally car videos where the two round light setup is installed on the newer cowl.

From 2009, and shockingly, the pictures are still there:

Look at me I’m Mr bobxyz and I find everything!

I was just curious how hard it was, and how it looked. The spider eyes for my '85 coffin hood were ordered before the car even showed up here. Certainly my favorite mod.

Many thanks for finding that. I think I will make it a more factory-esque mod, but good to see them on a newer nose. I have the -'85 lower tie plate, buckets & center stay. Just pulled them from an 83 245

Took the fenders as well, if the corners/markers don't align nicely I'll swap the fenders & install -85 side markers. Some body work needed to clean them up, so preferably I'd keep the newer fenders, we'll see. I can add a coffin hood if I have to, and deal with the step at the cowl (or not). Not sure how well a cut late grille is going to look against the wider 93 hood nose section

Amusing artists' concepts here (thanks @philski o'flood and @fortbrick )

And for reference, here's my '85 coffin hood, but not quite the same head-on angle:

Many thanks again for taking the time to link that. Yours is a thing of 😍. Did you try it with the later Cibie clear markers, or were you set on the old amber markers from the get go?

While reading this post, something bubbled up from the depths of the memory banks about being able to use Volvo Truck headlight assemblies to install 7" round headlights into the later 240s. Did a quick search, found this post:

These truck parts will allow you to keep your existing body panels but the overall aesthetics may not be what you are looking for as well.

My '85 came with broken amber markers and quad clear+yellow rectangular sealed beams. I liked the look of the amber markers, so I replaced them with a good set. The quad rounds have also been upgraded to the Hella H1/H4 conversion lights instead of the original sealed beams.

I poked around myself but can't seem to find any pictures. Googling the part number also doesn't seem to pull up actual parts for sale.

Definitely looks like they reused the car assemblies for WIA and WCA trucks though.
