Our club has a new venue we are using. It is an old lumber mill site that has a fairly large paved area where logs were stored. The pavement is decent for the most part. Whatever was used to pave the lot yields very high grip for asphalt. The best part is there are no islands or light poles to avoid. It still isn't ideal because there isn't enough room to drive at the limit everywhere unless you are crazy and don't care whether you wreck your car. Compared to most of the venues we have here in the northwest, this is an improvement. The first weekend at this new venue I was worn out and had fun, yet, mediocre results. This was the second double header at this venue and I had a much better grasp of the changes in camber of the surface and the overall grip which varies significantly across the lot. It was nice to be able to drive my GT much harder than I do at most of the venues we have available. My best run Saturday was my last run. Sunday was the reverse of that. My best run was my first run and after that, I couldn't match what I did right out of the gate. That happens fairly often when I'm in tune with my car and don't feel overly constrained by the venue. Tomorrow, we get the State Fairgrounds for an event again after 5 years of not being allowed to hold an event there. Whiners that live nearby constantly complained about car events and the management quit letting us use the facility. Somehow, we got approval again.
Saturday's run.
