So I acquired a 70k miles 1992 2.0 16v turbo 960 on Friday, and I'm already in pain. But this time the source of the pain isn't Swedish, it's south Italian and their tendency to not insert their hands in their rectum and leave them there.
One of the problems is that the car has a 1992 alarm system installed, and a ****ing aborigenal second mechanical steering lock welded right above my knees that I keep smacking into.
In removing the alarm system, after getting everything out gracefully (with hands sticky from loads of ancient electric tape), I find myself with 3 wire issues, and the fourth is a bonus from the latest owner.
I didn't resize so it's easier to see. Excuse me if I didn't go study wiring diagrams yet but I'm exhausted and I'd appreciate a break.
1. Interrupted wires. This is perhaps the one that confused me the most. The alarm ecu is wired to interrupt and resume four wires that go into the driver door. The only thing I can think about is they raise the windows when you close the car, but I severely doubt a 1992 alarm kit can do that, and the keyfob doesn't seem to indicate a closing function. It just has an upwards arrow and an A. Very informative.
Can anyone tell me what these wires are? Green, Brown, Blue and I don't remember the last.
2. Misterious wires. There are two separate wire harnesses (iirc, one has two, the other 3/4) which come from the alarm computer, that travel into the door. Why didn't you open the door yet to see you ask? Well I've had the car three days and it's already in a million pieces, have some mercy, I'd like a hypothesis. Following the possibility from 1., I'm guessing that IF this car has remote close since 1992, some wires might be related to someone adding a driver side actuator. Which would be pretty cool since I do intend to install my own system of passive key entry.
3. A ****ing switch. So this switch was screwed into the knee panel like only a monkey could, and at first glance I assumed it had something to do with the alarm system. Now, I don't recall it coming in contact with it. It's taped to a blue wire, that goes into a bunch of wires, that goes up into the dash to become the trunk of wires that travel across. My assumption is that the other end of the wire, which ended up in the engine bay, although I don't remember where, probably went to the battery positive. And, that this switch interrupts something that in stock form would be current to the pump or something, although the rest of the wire was very thin. In any case, I assume this was a third kind of anti theft device, but I don't know what it is interrupting, and I can't find the other end of the blue wire to join it back with it's long lost friend. I did not reconnect the battery since starting the job so I have no idea how dead the car is right now.
4. Bonus eyesore. I had already ordered a nice volvo connector to ISO adapter off ebay, but of course I was greeted by this eye cancer. For some god damn reason everything is wired erratically, screw terminals everywhere, wires going to speakers apparently circumventing the oem wiring, and two wires hanging around, sad and cut, as in the picture. Is it likely that all the stock wiring failed/was interrupted or is this some ****ing idiots handywork? I'd really like to buy a connector with pigtails and put it back to stock, then use my adapter, but I'd like to hear if there is a likely reason for this.
Sorry for the wall, I'm rather butthurt my near minty car turned out to be a ****ing disaster inside the dash (only there though, so I guess I should be grateful).
