Fuel pump

So I my fuel pump went out on wednesday, the undercar one. I have 1986 volvo 245 and I replaced the pump and filter and hooked all the wiring up and put gas in the car, all crank no start. Pulled the line off the fuel regulator and it almost seems like its sucking rather then pumping towards the line. Now I hooked up the red wire to the yellow wire and black to black, but my question is, is it possible to reverse wire the pump?

Yes. It is a DC motor and will run the other direction if polarity is reversed.
