So my hood release is not working/broken. what the hell. it is fuctional in the inside....

Is there any way i can open it from the front?

not sure if its the same on a 740 but if the hood release breaks on a 240 you either have to break the grill or lay on your back and try and reach the hood release from under the car.

It depends, but it is challenging. If the cable is just not tight enough, you could try to push the hood down while assistent pulls the release handle, that way I got mine open. Then you could try some heavy wire, 3mm steelwire was excellent, so make a J shaped wire, and try to catch the hood opening wire and pull it, it is most easily accessible at either end of the grill, just under the plastic covered part that holds the radiator upper supports. You can also try if you could get the grill pins pushed out so you could get the grill off... Try these before broking the grill.

+1 on above. If that fails you may can reach it from underneath car. Or last ditch effort, bust grille out.

I pinched the cable once while doing front end work, shut bonnet and no longer could open it from the car...

But it's really not hard to open from the front, seriously easy in fact, remember those two plastic clips that hold the grill on, you can get a screwdriver to the front of those easy like someone else said, so you just need to push them in and lift up, once out the grill will just come out, and you should have all the access you need to the cable and to get the bonnet open with no damage.
