High oil consumption B21A

Is there any oil dripping from the front timing cover? If it's caked with goop at the bottom, you probably have a leaky front main seal. The first picture there with oil all over the bottom of the bellhousing makes me think giant leak from the back of the engine.

1 quart of oil per 300 miles is really high consumption, and we'd expect it to show up in other tests.

Did you do the dry/wet compression test on all 4 cylinders? Were they all ~132 psi dry / ~140 psi wet?

Did you look at all 4 plugs, and were they all OK (whitish with a bit of a tan/rusty color near the tip)?

Have you had someone drive behind you and gone up&down some hills, both accelerating and decelerating?

I'd also check all 4 cylinders with a borescope for visible damage (cheap on Amazon, get one that can do 90deg viewing).

I suspect valve stem seals and will be doing a cylinder head overhaul in near future. This will give me an oppertunity to examine bores

Thanks for all responses. For time being i will lift the head and do valve job and examine the bores, a weekends work, and possibly use the next grade of oil. Don't have cold weather here, 14/15c mid winter. Then next winter i will re visit the complete re build.
