Hood Fitment Issues

Hey all,

My '81 244 was in a minor front end collision some time in its past life that had left the hood with a minor kink that left a small gap on the driver's side. Well, after that ice-storm we had in Texas a few weeks ago my hood is worse for the wear. Somehow, the fit back at the hinges is way off now and the gap is significantly more pronounced. Anyone have experience fixing this sort of a thing? I unbent the kink somewhat but can't figure out what is going on back at the hinges.

You need to lubricate your hinges. Typically when they get bent like this its because the hinges get stiff due to corrosion/grunge/dirt. Some Lithium grease will make them move nicely. There is also adjustment points where the hinge bolts to the hood and where it bolts to the inner fender well. You can adjust the hood down at the back using the inner fender well bolts. It won't take the bend out of the hood however. Your best bet there would be to find a replacement unbent hood.

^^

What quillc said. You bent your hinges due to lack of lubrication. There is a bolt on the hinge base that lowers the height of the hinge. That may give you enough adjustment to get the hood to match the cowl and fender again.

Thanks. I'll lube up the hinges and see if I can't adjust it back into a reasonable position.
