How did I do on my trade?

I had a 67 Ford Galaxie 500 fastback with a 4 speed and LSD rear end. It hadn't run in 30 years or more, but was straight and not really rusty at all. I have owned that car for over 20 years now and had done nothing with it.

Recently a guy on faceballs marketplace posted a 242 with no drivetrain in it. I contacted him about a trade hoping he'd put some money into it plus the Galaxie. Well he bit, but offered me this 78 242 AND a 76 wagon that was wrecked. We did the deal and I just got everything into my hands yesterday.

The 242 had a stroker 5.0 ford in it and a T5. The old owner pulled the drivetrain and then sold the shell to the guy I bought it from. He was trying to do a drift/street racer thing with it. There's a hydro setup where the handbrake should be and there is no parking brake on the car anymore. There are some aftermarket brake bias stuff, a aftermarket FPR, an IPD rear sway bar (no front sway) and the wheels. I think it might be on IPD lowering springs as well. Have to knock the dirt off it to be sure. The seats are crappy buckets from Jeg's or Summit. They're gonna go.

Oh the grill is in the back seat.

The wagon is possibly, maybe fixable but it would be a lot of work. I'm just going to part it and crush it I guess. It has chrome mirrors, ARE 3 piece wheels, a flathood grill and headlights, and an old chrome roof rack which is bent up but fixable.

One lawn ornament you don't care for in trade for two you have a desire to work on, solid trade.

Cool! Hold on to the wagon for a while. You never know what obscure parts you might need down the road. It could also be an donor of sheet metal if you find some nasty rust on the 242.
You did what? You're asking the wrong guy. I would have kept the very rare 4 speed equipped Galaxie 500 Fastback.
I don't think it was originally a 4 speed car. I think it was a 3 on the tree base model with an FE and a 4 speed out of something else. Car had manual steering and brakes.

Ask your wife/so/family/neighbors... I'd pick 1x classic American Muscle "yard art" over 2x crusty Volvos any day. On the other hand, if this is the needed motivation to resurrect one, then you chose correctly.
Lol. Luckily I have a storage spot to park them so they aren't at the house. It's a covered RV spot, so basically a tall carport. Working out there sucks, but at least its in the shade.

I've had this car for like 25 years. I drove one a lot like it in High School and when I saw this one I had to have it. Pulled it out of a field and made it run for a little bit. It has an LSD in it, I know that much.

It was always the thought of rebuilding my HS car that made me hold on to it, but honestly I never touched it in 25 ish years and I've grown to appreciate underpowered lighter weight cars.
