Hurricane edition 1981 262c

Here’s the haul… (nearly) two complete black Bertone interiors! I have a matchng black dash to swap in as well, and will leave the pillars and headliner in the current tan. Black from the window line down, tan above. Everything is in pretty fantastic shape, it will need to be cleaned and the drivers seat will likely be pieced together from the two.

1 rear package shelf, 1.5 sets of carpets

1 set of hard plastics (I think most of these are interchangeable with standard model parts?)

Any of theses parts for sale? A friend of mine, is picking up a 262c that has been in storage for the last 30 years. But all of the interior is gone. Is a gold/brown colour 2 tone paint.

Hello
It is a 1980. He is missing everything inside. I think doorpanels, rear panels and c-pole cover, is most importante.
Bytheway, the is located in Norway.

Can use 242 parts for everything below the window line - door cards, seats, dash, etc. all fit.

Would need 262c specific pillars, probably headliner and sun visor panel, grab handle trim, etc

I don’t mind shipping but will be expensive. There’s a 262c FB group that has lots of euro members - might be a good place to source parts.

Interior removal under way! Got the passenger seat and rear seat completely out, rear side panels and parcel shelf part way. As I went I ran into a couple differences from how I see the removal described typically.

For the rear seat uppers, instead of a bent tab, there was a bolt through the lower seatbelt anchor and a tab on the seat back that had to be removed. There were also two bolts behind the fold-out center armrest - had to pull up the leather flap and remove those to get the seatback out.

The parcel shelf similarly has the tensioner bolted through and will need it removed. I’m trying to avoid messing with the tensioners too much so double checking that I have to remove the tensioners to move forward.

The P/O had 6x9s installed in the beige shelf. These were screwed in from underneath in the trunk space with wood screws, and there are cutouts in the trunk for the speakers. The plan is to install an unmolested black shelf, so will probably look into how to patch this. Thinking maybe some sort of peel-n-stick noise canceling product on the top and under sides of the sheet metal but open to suggestions. Definitely not wanting to learn to weld haha.

In parallel working on replacing the blown old oil cooled turbo. A couple questions:

1. There are only three bolts in the heat shield - looks like the front-most one is missing - is there supposed to be a fourth?

2. The service manual says to push the downpipe to the side but it looks like it’s bolted in place with at least one brace. Are there other things I’ll need to do in order to move it enough to get the turbo out?

Parcel shelf is out, and a rare “just vacuumed” shot haha

Man that beige is nasty / ratty.

I always loved just how weird the bertones were, and that Volvo did it twice.

Did you do the turbo 4 swap or did you get it that way?

Yes, 4 heat shield bolts. It's pretty stiff, so I'd expect 3 bolts is plenty and won't rattle.

There's a brace to the engine block mid-way down the cat. There's also a metal exhaust hanger on the upper side of the pipe at the lower bend below the turbo. You'll need to unbolt the brace (either from cat or from block), and unbolt the down-pipe to muffler joint under the car so that it can rotate without rotating all the way to the rear exhaust tip. You may want to just go ahead and unbolt the lower metal hanger so that you can move the whole catted down pipe around.

And since it's the early log style exhaust manifold, I think you need to remove the whole exhaust manifold with turbo attached. With a 90+ manifold, I think the just the turbo can be unbolted.

Stoked to follow along this swedish huracan. That white car in post #3 (was it a render? Me a dunce) with 242 rear windows looked so good. I love the 262s, but that slanted window really brings helps the fastcar appearance

Previous owner owned a Volvo specialty shop in NH and did the swap and restoration. That was probably done about 15 years ago and then it sat in storage for ??? Years

I think that one was a legit 242 rather than 262. 🤷‍♂️

Red = rear seat mounting points. Top two are hooks, bottom and middle location are all bolts.

Blue = bottom seat - I think this is maybe reversed from most? (Center at back rather than front)IMG_1039.jpeg

I've got the back seat out of my 245 at home, I feel like it's the same/similar.
Pretty sure 2 in front one in back is normal 2 series setup. I don't recall having any bolts on my seat back, just the top hooks and tabs at the bottom that you have to fit into some little slotted ears and bend to retain. If that makes sense.

Some more interior progress. Unbolted the seatbelts to get the rear panels out. Test fit of the black-below-beige-above look - I think it’ll work! Also got the krusty ebrake console out and cleaned up the replacement

Started in on some leather restoration before installing. Used leatherique on one of the rear panels. Before/after-ish pics below - kinda subtle in the photos but super obvious in person. The untreated panel looks kinda hazy / fogged compared to the treated panel.

Not looking forward to doing the seats LOL
