I have an 84 242tic. My turbo is on its last leg and need to rebuild or replace and Im not sure which Garret turbo I have the plate is missing. If anyone can help I would greatly appreciate it. We used Vadis to look it up and they list 14 different turbos for that year. The only way they can tell which one I have is by the eng # they say is on the timing cover sticker. But it is an 84 there was no way that was still there so anywho... HELP. Now before I get posts "Just get a t3t4hybrid or 15g" thats not in the budget right now. But thanks.

get any garrett T3 or T25, they will bolt right up to the manifold.

or if it's a T3 for a different manufacturer, at worst you'll have to swap the turbine housings.

this is not difficult, just use lots and lots of P-Blaster and maybe have a basic propane-bottle torch on hand just in case.

Well, Which engine use? if is a B21FT or a pre-89 B230FT is a Garrett T3 with a .48 exhaust A/R probably. So, you can choose between a few turbos, still Garrett T3, get a new mani and use a T25 (very hated here), get a Mitsu mani and turbo. the board member Quattro is selling a T3 in very good condition, search it in the for sale section (less than $120)

So can I install a T25 in a T3 old style manifold?

yes. if you take the time to make the exhaust ports on the head and the manifold match the gasket, and port the collector of a 90+ so that it directs the gas flow towards the turbo inlet (i ported a 90+ mani this way a couple years ago and it was great) the flow is greatly improved.

Well it is a B21ft possibly the stock turbo. Im not lookin for performance upgrade that will come later I just need it back on the road. Now how can I tell which turbo it is the info plate is missing. Its obviously a Garret but which one.

Why does it matter which one it is? Just replace it with any turbo from an intercooled 240 and it will be bolt on, you won't even have to mess with the wastegate and they're all the same thing, just stock T3s. Your turbo isn't a T25 because those only came on later cars.

that's true you need a Garrett T3, only that, bolt in.:)
