I'd like to see some nice racks.

That is roof racks aka cargo baskets. Taking the wagon to the beach next month. I started with FB Marketplace but several baskets I have seen appear smallish given the length of the wagon's roof. I don't plan to put more than a couple hundred pounds up there, but I'd like the room for bulky crap.

The threads I've seen on here are all quite old.

I like the classic Thule roof bars they can carry some stuff. The Volvo roof rack always seems too wimpy plus it puts the weight on the roof and not the drip rail edge like the Thule.

Not a lot of name brand choices these days, seems like Thule or Yakima for racks. So I got a Thule Canyon XT at REI.

I have so much damn roof real estate that a bigger rack would look better, so I went ahead and ponied up for the 20" extension (not pictured, arriving tomorrow). For anyone else who may be in this boat, the extension is cheapest on Amazon right now.

I think the coffins are just photon torpedo casings. The Thule boxes do look like those.

Can't go wrong with Thule - looks great! To hopefully slow down rusting of the rack from the inside out, I shrink wrapped the 4 joints.

Volvo p/n 281376:



Brown 245 in the background has the other dealer accessory luggage rack that was available between 1968 and 1982. The wimpy one that causes your car to rust from the inside out.

I usually use an old school Yakima BasketCase luggage basket if I need one. Mainly because I no longer have a Volvo wagon. It's short enough to fit the 242's roofline.
