Info on the B204GT/FT engine

I have to proof somehow that 200 hp engine has been mounted to volvo 740 chassy, so no need for charts.
Before I've used service manuals from volvo, but I haven't found manual that contains B204GT(or ft) egine.
But document you are referring would do just fine, language may be problem, but I think it can be solved.

I can scan the volvo "flickhandsbok", whitch is the volvo's small mechanic handbook. There the b204 engins are shown with hp/kw. Will this be okay? Pm me if you want me to do this.

I am pretty sure that someone is going to call me a Grave Digger soon, or the Post Necromancer, but a small update, or additional info:

-> 1992 960 with B204FT has a "597" ECU;

-> 578 is fully interchangeable with 597, I don't feel much of a difference. Maybe, MAYBE it accelerates a bit better, but that might just be a feeling or an effect of having some faulty data in the previous ECU's settings;

-> Four 804 injectors, coupled with a resistor pack;

-> The TCU is buried deep underneath the dashboard, on the right side of the steering column - to me it is only accessible if I bend my body like a limp banana...

Unfortunately my EBC is down for no apparent reason, so I am running on an MBC down. So any piece of information on the TCU would be highly appreciated, especially as ipdown's website is mostly down

Also: do I get it correctly, that the only difference in FT and GT on B204 is the presence of the catalyseur, and different ECU? Is the EZK the same, or not? Did I just upgrade my FT into GT by changing the ECU?

I have no idea about the 204GT/FT engines, but I like to go through part catalogues.

The 204GT indeed has no cat, while the 204FT does.
The GT has an additional silencer in place of the cat.
The EZK is the same part number for both GT and FT - p/n 3531520.

Also, here are the numbers for the ECUs.
Unfortunately they do not specify the Bosch numbers for the 204 engines, no remark on the bottom.

I believe the brown ECU is Bosch number -597 and the green is -950. According to the data I have they switched from 597 to 950 in 1993. Green could also be 578? I am not sure. But 578/597/950 should all be fine for B204FT/GT.

Thank you all for a nice inflow of new data! 597 is indeed light brown, 578 is dark grey (spruce?). 950, from the photo retrieved over the internet, is white (with large AX marking). But the "gulgroen" one is for B234F, so I believe it is 571, which is Chernobyl Grass Green indeed. The only 950 is found is said to be dismantled from a V850... while easyecu places it in a 960 only. On the other hand, it fails to recognise 597 as a possible one for 960 or 780, so...

I presume that the lack of 950 in the V740 parts cat is because this computer was introduced after 740 was phased out (and is thus not listed as present in 740 by the easyecu), and that lines up with your data well

Nevertheless, the list would then go as:

571, or 3517608, light green, LH 2.4, B234F,
578, or 3517718, dark green, LH 2.4.1, B204GT; ---> goes nicely in GT and FT;
597, or 3531519, light brown, LH 2.4.1, B204FT early; ---> goes nicely in FT, however might be a bit worse than 578 ;
950, or 5003871, plain white, LH 2.4.2, B204FT late. ---> presumed to be worse than 578 (or not?).


I am curious to check what would happen if I swap 597 for 532 or 562...

Might be an issue, but as far as I have understood, a failing EGT = retarded/advanced ignition (sorry, not sure if this is the correct wording...), my turbo with EBC on does not pump more than some 0.3 bar. With an MBC, 0.9 is easily achieveable.

If the EGTC is faulty or reports high temp, it does several things. TCU lowers the boost, EZK retards, LH enriches the mixture in turn to lower the temp. More here http://forums.turbobricks.com/showthread.php?t=349043
