Injector numbers

Hi!

I bought some injectors from internet. I found the part number here (part number 11) :

The Volvo part number is 1389844 = Boschin 0280150734.

I checked my car and found out that the injectors in my car are part number Volvo 1271100 = Bosch 0280150725

There?s too number in that online catalogue and that 1271100 is marked with " () " .
What does that mean?

Can I use those Bosch 0280150734 that I purchased in my car?

When I search injectors to my car in www.skandix.de they offer these Volvo 1389844 = Bosch 0280150734 .

The car is Volvo 780 1987 B280E.

The idea was to have a spare set of original injectors. So I think that I will try to find those Bosch 0280150725 and sell these.

I can?t understand why Volvo have basically one spare part number for these and the ratings are different.

When used injectors-or a vehicle-are put in storage, within a year, they may be stuck shut.

When buying injectors, there are four basic items to consider:

1. Impedance - Yours are high impedance
2. Feed - Yours are EV1
3. Fuel Pressure Regulator's Pressure - lbs/hr or in Bar
4. Rail Clip - Injector body has a slot(s) (groove) for inserting a clip

Both are EV1 style, both are high impedance, and both have rail clips; so yes, both should fit on your engine. The injector I suggested does not have a rail clip.

If you want a similar injector to Bosch 0280150725, then Bosch 0 280 155 746 might be a better match to this injector. The "155" number denotes Bosch's third generation of injectors, which has a better fuel atomization.

See this web-site, and notice what he says, "correct grooves to fit to the fuel rail.."

It's better to find injectors with a similar flow rate. The vehicle's fuel-computer can compensate for higher/lower injector fuel flow, but there is a limit. Staying within 10% of OEM's injector should work.

Again, what is your rail fuel pressure set at? 2.5 Bar or 3.0 Bar?

Curiously the xxx734 are now a reccomended replacement injector for ALL 4 cyl EFI redblock cars, and probably will work OK in your B280E. The difference in flow may be useful in a LH 2.4/3.1 car, as the fuel can be compensated through learning to mabe 20%. The 87 B280E IIRC is 2.2 (?) and may be outside of the adjustment range, run a bit rich, especially for a higher 3bar FPR. I would try and see how they run. If the 87 is LH 2.4 (which it could be) then go for it, will work fine.
Note the later cars using a 3 bar FPR will run an aditional 10% more fuel than earlier 2.5 bar LH 2.0/2.1/2.2 cars, and the xxx734 is rated at 2.5 bar, and the later injectors are rated at 3 bar. The xxx734 injectors were initially used on '85-88 B230F LH 2.2 740/760 GL and GLE NA cars.

I use the xxx 734's in my LH 3.1 car running a 4 bar FPR, which runs about 24 lbs/hr, and leans out smoothly but more fuel when I need it.

Different fan patterns and atomization are designed for the port type and valve configuration. What is good for one isnt better for another.

I rather suspect your Vehicle Emissions Test Stations in Phoenix or Tucson could evaluate your choice of injectors. Finding Bosch's spec sheet on droplet size could also be a metric.

Bosch has been a company of improving their products, and there was a reason why companies like Volvo, Ford, and GM used Bosch's III generation of fuel injectors. Injector specialists, as seen on youtube videos, suggest they have better fuel atomization.

Last I knew about Rex-I/Regina, this would not be the case.

But, Bosch 0 280 155 746 works fine for Regina. I think OEM Regina was 18#, and this Bosch is 19#

If you look at what Bosch is currently manufacturing, one will find a number of previously made injectors not being made today. It's about downsizing the retailer's inventory, and finding a one size "best fit"

Here, one ebayer, who also sells fuel injectors at a retail location (fiveomotorsport) is offering

4- Volvo B230F L4 Bosch Generation III "Black Knight" Fuel Injector NEW

New P/N: 0280155884
Interchangeable p/n: 0280150762, 35175728, 0280150734, 198455, 198442, 13898440, 12711008

These are 19#, but I suspect they would work fine for applicable Volvo engines since most users are not pedal-to-the-metal drivers.

xxx725 were rated at 2.5 bar for 16.4#

If I was buying new, I'd buy a set of four "Black Knight" Fuel Injectors

If the 87 is LH 2.4.

RE: Volvo 780 1987 B280E

In 1987, the B280-E/F was a new engine, which used LH 2.2 "The B280E for the Nordic markets has the EGR/Pulsair exhaust emission control system..." And, the B280E engine was "detoxed" (9.5:1 compression ratio) for Nordic market.

xxx725 were rated at 2.5 bar for 16.4#

Hence, for replacement injectors:

1. Bosch 0280155746
2. Bosch 0280155884

Since both are 19# at 3.0 bar. Bosch 0280155746 injectors can be found on newer Volvos in 1990 era.

Bosch does not list replacement injectors - PFI (Port Fuel Injection)

If a Bosch B 280 500 741 adjustable fuel regulator could be fitted, you could use 3 bar injectors that would match same flow rate as your 2.5 bar injectors.
