well the old metal heater valve in the 242 wouldn't close all the way so it was always blowing a little warm when the valve was fulll closed. did the scan tech retrofit kit and got it all adjusted and it's still blowing warm. it's 65 degrees out today and the air out the vents was about 78 to 80. if anything, i actually adjusted it to hit the full closed stop on the valve before the slider hits full cold. so, the valve is definitely in the full closed position. anyone had problems with the scan tech valve just not sealing off completely. It seems that'd be the only reason for the warm air, and considering it's scan tech, i wouldn't be too surprised.

Feel the core and see if it cools to ambient temperature after five minutes when valve is off (fan on high), just feel the copper where the hose connects.

Yeah, I did the scantech valve from fcpgroton install, adjusted the same as you did and it is hella hard to dial in a 'warm' setting. Seems to like whatever is ambient (like 5 degrees) or blast furnace. At least it doesn't leak like the old one :grrr:

Scan Tech valve

I've installed a few of the plastic valve retrofits. They have been OK with one exception. I installed it backwards. There is a flow arrow on the valve. If you install it backward they don't like that and mine failed in a short while. It eventually leaked after a short time which made me change it discovering I installed it backward. The coolant flows from the head to the valve then to the heater core. So be sure the flow arrow is pointed toward the core.

Maybe that's why yours isn't working correctly? Otherwise it may be a bad one. After all they aren't a durable as an all metal valve that lasts between 15-20 years. The old metal valves also have a small adjustment screw on them so if they weren't shutting off all the way you could try an adjustment before you gave up and changed it.

just double checked and the valve isn't backwards. but..... there was a nice puddle of water under the valve this time, and it's not from a hose connection, it's from one of the metal/plastic joints:grrr:. i've about had it with scan tech parts. i'm just gonna try to return it and get this instead...

i know how you feel, the switch or something broke on my 940 before i got it and instead of properly fixing it, they rigged this knob that i have to pull out of my dash every time i want heat, and theres no medium or low setting, its either cold or furnace. for the AC to work, i get to plug a little thing into my cig lighter!

That looks like a very good solution. I have bought items from this user and he was a good seller in my experience. Although if your valve is brand new you should try to get a replacement for a defective product. Mine took a couple of months before it leaked so I couldn't in good faith ask for a return but you just put it in.
