What I'm looking for is someone who's mechanically smarter then I. I'm gearing up to buy a flametrap kit. And well I'm willing to pay someone in some way to help replace the parts. I'm starting here to diagnose odd boost issues. It will pull 9psi when cool but once it warms up less then 3.. and very down on power. I've also noticed a really foul smell from exhaust after a period of work such as climbing a hill.

Like rotten egg smell? If so you may have a clogged cat.

Doing what? I'm unsure if it's the cat because the car will pull boost just fine when cool.. but not once warmed up.

So far you're struggling in the dark and trying to throw random parts at it. You don't seem to heed the advice of people very well and never post up what you have tried, what has worked and what has failed. One concise thread with as much detail as possible is the way to go.

So. Have you tried what has been suggested or not?

Well I can't unbolt the cat. The landlords here where I live are so strict that they won't allow us to work on vehicles here. I want to try the flame trap bit first. I know people said not to trust the dealer. But there is good cause to fix that. This poor car was a basket case when I got it.

Have fun!

If you are having pcv issues then yes, fix them. I can just about guarantee you that your boost issue is not PCV related however. Nothing wrong with listening to guys at the dealer. The vast majority of them know what they are talking about, just a small percentage of hacks ruin it for everyone else.

Your boost issue is being caused by a restriction somewhere, be it in the intake or the exhaust. Keep in mind that a cat that is starting to clog will not show symptoms until it is warmed up.

Eventually it would. Do you know anyone with a temperature gun? If you point it at the front of the cat it should be cooler then the rear of the cat if it is working correctly.

Wouldn't a plugged cat trip a check engine code?

Maybe.

But seriously, there is nothing more annoying than a person who asks for help but doesn't actually listen to what people are suggesting. I assume you posted the question to get an answer not to see if your fingers could still push letters on the keyboard in the proper sequence to formulate sentences.
