M46 4th gear switch

Hi,
My overdrive doesn't engage anymore due to a faulty 4th gear switch. The problem is, those switches for models 1980- arent available anymore...

Can you use the switches from the earlier models? Appart from the electrical plug they look identical...

Are you referring to the switch on the gear shift knob? The early slide switch and later push button switches use slightly different wiring/relays. I believe you can convert the early version to the later version if you update the wiring as well.

To be honest, i don't think there is much wiring to update because the only thing the switch does is connect to ground when activated so that is't hard to wire in.

Right but the push button switch is a momentary switch and the slide switch is on/off. Check out ozvolvo.org/archive for the wiring diagrams to double check.

You can use the early 4th gear switch by connecting one of the terminals to ground and changing the terminal on the existing wire.

Thats what i figured since the late style only needs a ground imput.
