M46 overdrive issue

Hi! How difficult was it to remove the over drive gasket?

That was very easy, just remove the six screws, drain the oil, remove the old gasket (can be stuck to the metal if old enough, use a chisel or similar to remove what ever is left) and then add the new and redo the six screws - all done.

Sweet. I’m going to get that ordered and do that job this weekend.

Also the paper gaskets can/will leak until they self saturate well / get tightened really well - so take care not to gouge the surface when removing old gasket.

And returning to this thread as well almost a year since I first posted it as I've finally solved the non-working overdrive indication light in the instrument cluster.

The solution was a new relay which sounds like an obvious solution but it wasn't for me because:

1. I switched to a relay which made the overdrive work again
2. That made me assume that the relay was good in all other aspects
3. But when I switch to another relay (a year later) the light suddenly started working

Learning by doing... 😅
